The Bladeshaper Level BAB Fort Ref Will Special 1st +1 +2 +0 +2 Finesse Mind Blade, Mind Blade Improvement 2nd +2 +3 +0 +3 Blade Fission (Longsword) 3rd +3 +3 +1 +3 Mind Shield 4th +4 +4 +1 +4 Blade Fission (Bastard Sword) 5th +5 +4 +1 +4 Enlarge Mind Blade Requirements To qualify to become a bladeshaper, a character must fulfill all of the following requirements… Base Attack Bonus – +5 Skills – Concentration 6 ranks, Knowledge (psionics) 8 ranks Feats – Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Bastard Sword), Weapon Finesse Special – ability to manifest a mind blade GAME RULE INFORMATION Bladeshapers have the following game statistics. Alignment: Any. Hit Die: d10. Class Skills The bladeshaper’s class skills (and key ability for each skill) are Climb (Str), Concentration (Con), Hide (Dex), Jump (Str), Knowledge (Psionics), Move Silently (Dex), Tumble (Dex) Skill Points at Each Level: 2 + Int modifier. Class Features Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Bladeshapers gain no proficiency with any weapon or armor. Finesse Mind Blade (Ex): A 1st level bladeshaper learns to subtly alter her mind blade’s weight and balance no matter what shape it takes. A bladeshaper can add her dexterity ability modifier instead of her strength modifier to any attack roll made with her mind blade, even when it’s been shaped to replicate a longsword or bastard sword. Note: A bladshaper can only finesse her mind blade when wielding it in one hand. Mind Blade Improvement (Ex): You can add your bladeshaper class levels to your soulknife levels in order to determine your mind blade’s enhancement bonus on attack rolls and damage rolls and the mind blade enhancement class feature you have as a soulknife. Blade Fission (Su): At 2nd level, a bladeshaper gains the ability to change her mind blade to replicate two identical longswords as a full round action, and by 4th level she can use this ability to form her weapon into two identical bastard swords. All penalties for fighting with a weapon in each hand still apply and each sword is treated as having an enchantment bonus one point lower when split this way. Mind Shield (Su): At 3rd level, a blade shaper can generate the equivalent of a light shield in her off hand using the same mental energy that creates her mind blade as a move action without provoking attacks of opportunity. The shield is encumbrance free, imposing no armor check penalty or arcane spell failure chance though the bladeshaper cannot wield a weapon in the same hand that holds the shield. If the bladeshaper generates her mind shield without forming her mind blade in the other hand the shield gains the benefit of a shield enhancement bonus equal to the full enhancement bonus her mind blade would normally have. If the shield is wielded in her off-hand with her mind blade in the other, the enhancement bonuses for both items is equal to the full mind blade bonus minus one (with the shield’s bonus being a shield enhancement bonus and the mind blade, a weapon enhancement). A bladeshaper cannot enhance her mind shield with enhancement special abilities as she does with her mind blade. Enlarge Mind Blade (Su): By 5th level the bladeshaper has mastered the art of shaping her mind blade and can use this expertise to form her weapon into an even larger form than normal. The damage done by her mind blade now equals that of a similar weapon designed for a creature one size category larger than herself no matter if its in the form of a short sword, longsword or bastard sword. A bladeshaper takes no penalties for wielding an enlarged mind blade. |

I am curious how the Enlarge Mind Blade feature works with a race with Powerful Build. Other then that this looks like a nice little class to me. In a sense, Enlarge Mind Blade gives a soulknife the weapon wielding benefits of powerful build (applied only to the mind blade of course) even if they dont have that racial ability. Since as far as i know medium sized creatures with the powerful build trait generate medium sized mind blades it would work the same for them as any other medium size race. I guess this demonstrates why it wouldn't be to efficient for a goliath or half-giant to take levels of soulknife. |
| Ehtiar04-27-06, 07:40 AM | Actually (to put my two cents in) , I always thought that any naturally larger creature that had Mind Blade ability.. would be counted as using the shortsword/longsword equivalent of their size.. not projecting the toothpicks of a medium or small creature.. |

As far as a I know, goliath and half-giant characters (both medium sized creatures) generate medium sized mind blades by default. It makes perfect sense to me however to think that a large creature would make a large mind blade. |
| Ehtiar04-27-06, 06:12 PM | Ahh hah.. Yes.. Throwing meaningless comments in I guess.. For some reason I had a revert to the larger then medium half-giants from the old Dark Sun... <tuts, and claps the side of my head> Too... Much.... Trivia...... |

Trivia...... totally off subject, but i almost cried when i saw what they did to the half-giant in the expanded psionics handbook considering it was an obvious homage to the dark sun race. Its was so nerfed...just to fit into LA +1, and even then the goliath is better. |
