Hello

I'm currently playing a Bladesinger, but I'm at a loss where to find some more lore about them. Can any one advice some good fiction/ old edition books/ current edition books / weblinks/... ?
My most "comprehensive" source of knowledge about them consists of the mentions in Icewind Dale (Pc Game) and some items in BGII.

Thanks in advance!

Maybe various other AD&D 2nd edition books. Cormanthyr, Empire of the Elves and Elves of Evermeet jump to my mind.

For fiction, really any flashy swordsman who uses magic and happens to be an elf is a good example.

I meant real lore, like how they are integrated within elvish society and such. It seems that the Champion of Correllon Larethian have largely taken their role. (A blasphemy against the fluff!;))

Well, I think there was a bit more in 2 ed, iirc they had a book on elves. For now, I think Races of Faerun and Magic of Faerun might be good books on them.

Ok. Then, the two 2nd Ed books I referred would be perfect.;)

The Complete Book of Elves should also be a good old edition source.

Look also at Mongoose's Quintessential series, both QElf and QElf II. Their bladesong is mechanically different, but some flavor is present.

I got QElf, but there they state that the described Bladesong is specifically NOT the Arcane Sword wieling guy. :)
I'll try to pick up those books you recommended, though, thanks for the tip.
Races of Faerun has very little info on them, just the paragraph describing the PrC.

You're not forced to follow everything they say. I think the scene of the masters of each style making a show-fight introduces an interesting element, if you find a second elven PrC.

Yup, that's why I didn't recommend it.;)

Lawkeeper, I agree with you about the showcase, but it just bothers me that there's "something" out there that's also named Bladesinger and that I can't read it. ;-)

Why can't you read it ? Yes you can. You can also use the names to describe your attacks, even if there're no real technical differences.

That said, practitioners of the QElf's Bladesong are not the arcane-wielding Bladesingers, but nothing prevents you from taking them both. Be a Bladesong-using Bladesinger.

I'm already using those names and rankings.:)
I can't read the books because I don't have them and they're hard to come by. :)

Return of the Archwizards trilogy by Troy Denning features plenty of Bladesingers doing their thing vs. Phaerrim. I've heard many fans of FR didn't like this trilogy, but I loved it! I mean, Shadow Magic and Bladesinging and the Chosen (oh my!)...what's not to love??

I'll check Amazon for that trilogy. Thanks!

Most fans don't like it because it's considered a RSE or Realms Shattering Event and it brings to bear the Shadow Weave. RSE's change the whole world and throw things off or askew, like the Time of Troubles for instance. Many FR fans don't even incorporate that even in their Realm game worlds and keep it as it was before that happened. I for one love change and world changing events because it makes it more alive. As such, I also loved the Return of the Arch-wizards trilogy and it does have some good references to Bladesingers.

GawainBS, if your looking into novels for lore about bladesinging and your character, I'd also suggets Bladesinger by Keith Francis Strohm. It also wasn't liked by alot of FR fans, but I thought it was pretty cool.

Thanks, Diffan. I'll go over to my local gamesshop and check out if I can pick up a copy of those.
