| TheDarknessWithin02-19-05, 09:01 AM | Has anyone ever played the Bladesinger or Spellsword class? I was just wondering if they were any good and how you would go about making them if you wanted to become one, because I've tried a couple of builds and I've had to take some XP penalties along the way, and I was wondering if anyone has come up with a way to avoid that? |
| ILL34GL302-19-05, 09:28 AM | I played a Tome and Blood Bladesinger. The character was a great scout that could get anywhere (via tumbling, jumping, balance, etc) and was a wall of death that was durned hard to hit. Here was the progression: 1st rogue 2nd wizard 3rd fighter 4th fighter 5th rogue 6th fighter 7th rogue 8th fighter 9th bladesinger 10th shadowdancer 11th bladesinger 12th shadowdancer 13th-20th bladedancer Most funnerest character I've ever played. It was nice to only need one level of wizard and focus on a few rogue levels for skills and sneak attack. If you're utilizing the Complete Warrior Bladedancer, I don't know how I'd build that character. Probably equal Swashbuckler and Wizard levels. |
| Dave100102-19-05, 09:35 AM | Probably the fastest build into the Bladesinger (3.5) class with the most spellcasting ability would be bard 4/fighter 2/bladesinger X. You'd need to be a half-elf for that one. Otherwise you'd want to go Wizard (or Sorc) 6/Fighter 2/Bladesinger X. Fighter is there for the bonus feats that you need to qualify for the PrC. I personally like using bard more because you get more hp than a Wizard, a slightly better BAB, better saves, and all your spells are buffing spells (which is good for a combat caster). |
| DarknessEternal02-19-05, 12:42 PM | For Bladesinger, I would recommend Swashbuckler 3, then Wizard 1, then Elf Paragon 3. As a Bladesinger, you're adding Int to AC, and as a Swashbuckler, you're adding it to damage. Bladesingers aren't good casters. They require too many wierd combat feats which mean you'll be taking a lot of levels as a non-caster no matter how you try to do it. So play to their strengths. Be an awesome fighter with just a little bit of magic support. |
| akiir02-19-05, 12:55 PM | i would just go with spellsword it is a whole lot easer then bladesinger take socerer or wizard then switch to fighter then go to spellsword from there |
| MesaCraft02-19-05, 02:31 PM | I am currently playing a Spellsinger in a game I am in. My progression was as follows... 1 Swashbuckler 2 Swashbuckler 3 Swashbuckler 4 Wizard 5 Fighter 6 Fighter 7 Bladesinger I am a half Elf, have 10 Str; 19 Dex; 14 Con; 18 Int; 10 Wis, and 10 Cha. I am perfectly set up to take levels in Duelist as well. Duelist gets Canny Defense, which is an Int bonus to AC, which STACKS with Bladesong Style of the Bladesinger. I was not overly concerned with being a caster, as I am about getting the most outta my Int bonus. This character is a melee character that uses some spells to augment his fighting skills. |
| TinManFan02-19-05, 03:04 PM | I did a Complete Warrior Spellsword. It helps if you're Half Elf, Elf, Dwarven or Human so you don't need to keep going with the throw-away class. Now I like being a wizard and throwin spells around, so if you're more fighter oriented, go that route. Simple way Ftr1 (Take it first to meet the "Take down one foe sans magic." req. Easier to take out a goblin than a ogre mage when yer lacking in hp compared to a fighter of equeal levels.) Wiz 10 SS 9 I do it this way because You get another feat at lvl 10 of wiz and you only give up multiple channel spell. Plus you'd have to give up a level of spellcasting progression. However you could go 2 Ftr (Bonus feats are always nice) 4 Sorc 5 Spellsword 4 Kensai 5 Eldrich Knight maybe This is my idea of a more martially oriented guy. Don't need to go that far into spellsword, cause you can always get stuff made of Mithril to lower the SF%. Gets expensive but by 30% (20 form PrC and 10 from Mithril) a higher Dex bonus is more important to me than the heavier plating. Plus this way yyou can focus on a kick butt sword from the Kensai class. |
