| Koga:The ninja trick03-17-06, 10:10 PM | The Koga is sure some of you are familiar with City of Heroes, so why not convert this great game into d20? The Koga is going to start with his favorite achretype/class first.. He's not sure if they'll be able to holdup to regular D&D standards, so give feedback if you wish to.. BLASTER. http://www.x-forums.org/images/deadpool.jpg Wether a justice-crazed vigilantie, a not quite sastisfied day hero, or a gangster with some vendetta's to settle, deep in the slums of the city, the unforgiving moutains, the harsh forests, and any other terrain that can hold life, lies the cold hands of a blaster waiting to unleash ranged death. Alignment: Any. Hit Die: d6. Class Skills The blaster’s class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Climb (Str), Concentration (Con), Craft (Int), Handle Animal (Cha), Heal (Wis), Hide (Dex), Jump (Str), Knowledge (any) (Int), Listen (Wis), Move Silently (Dex), Profession (Wis), Ride (Dex), Search (Int), Spot (Wis), Survival (Wis), Swim (Str), and Use Rope (Dex). (Throwing weapons are considerd ranged.) Path finding: At 3rd level the blaster gains the ability to quickly find the best route through difficult terrain. If traveling off any trail or road on terrain more difficult than grasslands/plains a check may be made per hour to find the best path. This is a survival check with a DC of 20. If successful, the blaster moves as though crossing grasslands/plains for that hour. For any party member who does not share this ability there is a +1 to the DC of the Wilderness Lore check. Pathfinding cannot be accomplished while mounted. Swift Tracker: As a ranger. Evasion: As a monk/rogue/ranger. Bonus Feat: Choose a bonus feat from the fighter bonus feat list. Camouflage: As the ranger. Hide in plain sight: As the ranger. |
| Shedeo03-18-06, 12:56 AM | Wow, nice job on this. A good amalgamation of abilities, though the base attack progression looks a little weird, I'd just change it to a full base attack, as the fighter. Also, you're class skills are still labeled "Ranger," just thought you'd like to know. But, overall, it works well no matter what setting you're using. That is, unless, ranged weapons haven't been invented. Never heard of that, though, and the class is flexible enough to branch off into prestige classes if you want to. *thumbs up* |
| periscope03-18-06, 02:16 AM | I like this but it looks kind of like if you mixed a ranger and a rogue. My personal opinion is that every class should have something unique in it, something only it has and that keeps people wanting to play it out until the end. The barbarian has his rage, the bard, cleric, ESPECIALLY THE DRUID, wizard, and sorcerer have their spells. The bard also has his music, the fighter has his feats (which greatly expand to deal with higher level problems here: http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=579702), and the monk just has all sorts of things. My personal suggestion is that this is good but it needs some spice some "oomph". |
| Koga:The ninja trick03-18-06, 12:32 PM | The Koga edited it to have full BaB so it makes more sense, as for periscope, The Koga agrees, there is deffinitely something missing, but The Koga just doesn't know what, because the blaster looks as though it makes perfect flavour sense.. but doesn't seem to scream "pick me!" when you're making your character.. |
| Anshin Mandango03-18-06, 04:08 PM | perhaps give the blaster something similar to the warlock's eldritch blast, and some maybe some feat-chains based off the various power pools that alter and augment the blaster's blasting. or go with something similar to the ranger's combat style where the player has to choose a style of blasting (fire blasting, archery, ect.) it would probally take a fair bit of work, but it'd be cool. |
| periscope03-19-06, 02:34 AM | A question I would ask if I wanted to play this is "What kind of blaster would I play? Would I go in arrows blazing or would I focus and make that one shot needed?" A version of Eldritch blast might work. Instead of multiple dice how about it counts as a light weapon and eventually get up to something like 1d10 or 1d12? Also I would have it eventually be able to get around the constructs "if it allows SR it cant touch me" thing and bonuses to penetrating SR. Maybe make two combat styles: speed or precision. Machine gun vs sniper rifle If speed maybe something like rapid reload or improved initiative and maybe proficiency with repeating crossbows (say 'ello to my little friend!!!!!!!) or, if you used the eldritch blast idea, maybe multiple shots a round (1 for each attack) or maybe even something similar to a flurry of blows but with the blast only. Maybe even something similar to the arcane archers ability to hit every one in range once? For precision bonuses to hit might work and increases to range. The deepwood sniper from the master of the wild book might give you some ideas if you go this route. Maybe with precision if you hit they take penalties symbolizing you hitting sensitive areas like blood vessels or tendons or nerves or joints (one well placed shot to the spine and you aint getting back up). |
| supernerd891603-19-06, 10:26 AM | about that picture, if you want a class based off of that guy, make a class that incorporates useing a crossbow or gun in conjunction with a sword (like making it so that you can load a crossbow while your other hand has a weapon in it as long as your mouth is free, making it so that it doesnt provoke attacks of opportunity to shoot or reload in close quarters, etc) if not then you might want to change the picture so that people dont get confused as for the "oomph" give him a whirlwind ability (whether you do completely ranged or close quarter shooting, but limit the range to 30 feet) |
| DarknessEternal03-19-06, 04:18 PM | Deadpool is a Scrapper. What's he doing here? |
| Lucan_Desmond03-19-06, 05:03 PM | Cool idea for a class, I would have to agree that it still needs something original though. Also... try adding some HTML tags or sblocks or something to clean that up... its hard to understand. |
| periscope03-19-06, 11:18 PM | anyone got any ideas? |
| periscope03-20-06, 11:11 PM | You could try looking at the Predatory awareness of the huntsman at http://www.mouseferatu.com/ that might give you some ideas (look under Goodies) |
| SightlessSeer03-20-06, 11:43 PM | maybe a call shot ablity |
| yuenglingdragon03-21-06, 12:35 AM | I'm a little confused as to why people think that a class with an ability or increase to an existing abilty every level but two needs more oomph. I'm pretty sure the blaster is good enough as is. |
| supernerd891603-21-06, 09:03 PM | its not the amount of abilities, its the originality. he could replace an ability with a better, more original one that helps the game play and add flavor |
| Nephlite03-21-06, 11:17 PM | The Koga is sure some of you are familiar with City of Heroes, so why not convert this great game into d20? The Koga is going to start with his favorite achretype/class first.. He's not sure if they'll be able to holdup to regular D&D standards, so give feedback if you wish to.. Blasters are weapon users. I always thought the name meant blaster like warlock class or Cyclops. Weapon and Armor Proficiency: A blaster is proficient with all simple and martial weapons. No armor or shields? Point blank shot: As the feat, at 7th level the range increases to 60ft and at 18th level the range increases to 120ft. I like this. Maybe instead of a feat: level 20 ability doubles bonus from Point Blank shot. Ranged Sneak Attack: As a rogue's, but only works on ranged weapons. (Throwing weapons are considerd ranged.) Why not Sudden Strike since ranged weapons can't flank anyway? Evasion: As a monk/rogue/ranger. So he wants to be in light or no armor. |
| periscope03-22-06, 01:55 AM | What I said earlier (and Koga agreed on this) is that its not a bad class it just needs some oomph some spice just a little something that grabs your attention and says "PLAY ME!!!!!!!!!!". My personal belief (yet again) is that every class and prestige class should be unique, it should have something that few, if anyone, has access to something that makes it its own instead of a mix of two or more classes. Something that makes it its own. |
| periscope03-23-06, 02:24 AM | Why dont you do the two different types of blasting mentioned in the above posts and move the ranged sneak attack into the precision one while the speed one get no sneak attack whatsoever. |
