Dungeon Master 05-09-06, 02:32 PM	So, I have a player who has a spirit shaman character with the blessing of the spirits and warding of the spirits powers. The text says that this works like protecton from evil except against spirits. Does this mean that: -summoned spirit creatures cannot attack? Can non-spirit creatures attack? -spirit shaman is immune to charm/compulsion and possession?
tiercel 05-10-06, 12:16 AM	I think it is pretty clear that summoned spirit creatures cannot physically attack. Also the protection from possession, and charm/compulsion should work (though note, as per protection from evil, that this latter is protection from effects that "grant the caster ongoing control over the subject," so while it will stop dominate person it shouldn't do anything to confusion). Summoned non-spirit creatures is where it gets sticky, since protection from evil "prevents bodily contact by summoned creatures" but "Good summoned creatures are immune to this effect." It doesn't just say it prevents contact by Evil summoned creatures. However, oddly, protection from good/chaos/law seems specifically to ward off Good/Chaotic/Lawful summons, which would lead me to believe that the spirit shaman's warding only works against spirit summons. The other alternative is to rule that it is effective against ALL summons, which is a tasty meatball for your spirit shaman...
