| babysamurai10-27-06, 05:19 AM | In this ability description of the Spirit Shaman class, it says it functions just like protection from evil, but against spirits. Does that mean it also protects against any summoned creatures, like protection from evil, or only summoned spirits? Or does it not protect against summoned creatures, period? |
| Loki565410-27-06, 05:48 AM | I believe in the same book that the Spirit Shaman is in (Complete Divine?) includes a sidebar that defines what is considered a "spirit" for the purposes of the Shaman's abilities. I can't remember if summoned creatures are on that list or not. |

Spirits: Fey Elementals Incorporeal Undead Any creature with the spirit subtype (OA) My question is on Blessing of the Spirits, not what constitutes a spirit. Basically, I want to know if Blessing of the Spirits protects you against any summoned creature, like protection from evil does. |
| Loki565410-27-06, 06:56 AM | Well, since the spell acts like protection from evil, but only against spirits, I'd say no. Because summoned creatures aren't considered spirits. Seems simple enough. |

| Loki565410-27-06, 07:25 AM | But would it still hedge them out like protection from evil does against summoned creatures? No, because they aren't spirits. The ability only works against spirits. Now, if they were incorporeal summoned creatures, or fey summoned creatures, then it would work. |

Go and read the description of protection from evil, if you feel like it, thoroughly, and get back to me. Ta. |

Protection from Evil doesn't protect you against all summons; Good summoned creatures are immune. So, working on that basis, whatever is the diametrical oppsite of 'spirits' would be immune (I would personally say the 'opposite' of spirits would be 'not spirits'; and I'd say there was no 'neutral' equivilent in this case). So then it would follow Protection From Spirits only protects you against summoned spirits and summoned non-spirits are immune to this effect (in the same way Prot from Evil only works on summoned evil (and neutral) creatures and summon good creature are immune.) |

I agree. Now to convince my players. |
| babysamurai10-27-06, 09:07 AM | Do they still get the protection against mental control/possession? |
| aotrscommander10-27-06, 03:15 PM | As that section of Prot from Evil doesn't mention alignments at all, so it applies to all mental control/possesion attempts. Thus, I think it's fair to say that it applies to Prot from Spirits unilaterally too. |
