Board advice on Shapeshifter Druid variant [Archive] - Wizards Community

01-16-07, 01:34 PM My PC is a level 4 NG human rogue 2/ranger 2 (martial rogue - no sneak attack, yes fighter feats) who's the scout and ranged fighter for our party, is focusing on being very sneaky (will go Shadowdancer 1 once I qualify), and is learning to be a bounty hunter for his character role.

I'm considering taking Druid 1 for the Shapeshifter variant (it's already been OK'd by my DM). However, the 1st level description doesn't specify what forms I can take, it only cites a couple of examples. Are all medium, non-magical/non-aquatic/non-flying animals fair game?

Also, there are absolutely no feats I can find in support of the Shapeshifting variant. There are also no feats for Wild Shape that allow a PC to take small forms, let alone for Shapeshifting. As a houserule, would you allow Shapeshifting into small forms, or no? The PC would still occupy a full 5' square area and be stuck with all his pre-shapeshift abilities, but at least it would allow me to shapeshift into dogs and cats.

01-16-07, 03:28 PM Shapeshift =/= Wildshape, and if you take that variant you don't qualify for ANYTHING that has a prereq of Wildshape; nor is it considered Wildshape for any feats / spells / abilities that work of of it.

I think you can assume a form "upto" medium at first level, but don't quote me on it. If all else fails, just ask your DM.

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it. One other question, for purely roleplaying reasons. Assuming my PC shifts into a cat or a small dog, does my apparent weight also drop accordingly so that an NPC's kids could pick me up, or do I still weigh 140lbs like my Rogue does? The variant Druid description doesn't say.
