| kybarsfang02-23-08, 03:08 AM | I want to create a character that specializes in making and fighting with bombs with several effects, like the Alchemist's series of items (Alchemist's Fire, Alchemist's ice, Alchemist's Thundering Flare or whatever it's called) or, in cases of Undead, holy water. Now, I figure that just investing points into a craft skill will fit the bill, but I am wondering if there are any classes or prestige classes geared specifically toward being a bomber? If not, are there classes/PC's that could be used to help with the range of my throws or my ranged attack value? Thanks in advance for reading and for any advice given. :) |
| Majick02-23-08, 04:25 AM | My suggestions - Class: Fighter simply because you could take the whole Focus/Specialization feat chain as well as pretty solid BaB and HP Item: Gauntlets of Extended Range (Magic Item Compendium) Feat: Quick Draw, Point Blank Shot, Far Shot, Presice Shot and as stated above the whole weapon focus/specialization chain (PHB) also Grenadier and Mad Alchemist (PHB2) Also, not-so-strangely when you think about it, the Two Weapon Fighting feat tree would equal lots for attacks per round being used for splash weapons Possibly even take a level of Master Thrower PrC (Complete Warrior) so you can get the Palm Toss special ability (two 'items' with 1 attack roll) Not really sure about any other... actually i have heard about Potion Bracers and Bandoliers, so maybe you could get yourself a modified one of those and make it more like a holster for all your crazy stuff :P Have fun! :D (and cool idea) |

| ciaran02-23-08, 10:19 AM | Its a cool idea but the biggest drawback is price. Every attack costs you bunches of gold. I'm sure you've seen the two feats specific to what you are doing in PH2. Sneak attack is a nasty way to beef up the damage. And no, splash damage does not get sneak. Difficult theme to beef up... |
| dman1123502-23-08, 10:36 AM | Or.... you could take this (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=409878) class. I think he did a really good job with it. There's also a PrC explicitly for using the vials. If the PrC isn't linked in the thread, it's linked in his sig. |
| kybarsfang02-23-08, 11:18 AM | Wow, these are all really great ideas! I'm chekcing out that Alchemist link right now. :) |
| The_Shaman02-23-08, 11:54 AM | You could algo go for the whole mad inventor thing and try the Gnome Artificer from MoF. It specializes in nonmagical and almost nonmagical items. |
| Rulebook02-23-08, 05:10 PM | im a fan of master thrower for this concept... grenade like weapons are still thrown weapons! |
| dman1123502-23-08, 05:16 PM | Hmm, Alchemist 5/Mad Bomber 10/Master Thrower 5. |
| InkBlot02-23-08, 05:24 PM | There's some halfling racial feats in Races Of Eberron which relate to splash weapons, like letting you control the shape of the splash area (so you can hit an enemy without hitting flanking allies). There's also some splash weapon feats in Dungeonscape. |
