I was wondering how people think the WarBlade stacks up against Fighters. Are they better or god forbid worse. I just recently got a chance to check that book out and the class seems interesting. Any comments are welcome.

You heard that saying from Order of the Stick: "Yellow is the new green"?

Well, Warblade is the new Fighter.

Seriously. They made Fighters obsolete. Some people would claim they were obsolete already, but even if they were, Warblade was the final nail in the coffin.

From my skim over thats what it seemed like. Also the psionic warrior as well.

No, the psychic warriors is pretty much untouched. The swordswage also provides an adequate replacement for the monk if you don't want the mysticism. But yes, the Tome of Battle does obsolete the Warblade, and does a good more than just that. My personal favorite book to date.

How does the book with warblade obsolete the warblade, or did you mean fighter? ;)

Alas, Warblade is more or less the new fighter, but thanks to some of the new feats, you can alternate the style by saying a warblade is the maneuver focused fighter and the fighter is the feat focused fighter (All those feats means they can splurge a few personal ones to get a few maneuvers or stances).

only downside is that the fighter would be using maneuvers once an encounter. :P

It's a wonderful fix for fighting issues. Just a shame that it makes fighter nothing more than the 'feat master' sotospeak.

The Figher is just fine. None of the classes presented in ToB are as good at tactical or ranged combat as the Fighter is.

The Figher is just fine. None of the classes presented in ToB are as good at tactical or ranged combat as the Fighter is. Well, except for the Warblade who gets swift recovery of tactical feats within the White Raven Style, and if the Warblade wanted to used ranged weapons then he could.. well, Refocus his feats to ranged weapons. But you're right. The fighter is still just fine for a 2 level dip. Why, even the Warblade makes out like a bandit with a 2 level dip of Fighter!

This statement is pure nonsense. Please use the correct terms.

Also, I'm not sure you understood what I meant by tactical. The Warblade is still primarily concerned with damage, whereas Fighters can pursue more tactical options such as disabling their opponents through special attacks like trip.

Too bad he'll miss out on all of the good ranged feats. I suppose a Warblade who goes into Bloodstorm Blade could be a decent ranged combatant, though.

Well, the Warblade is a nice nice nice class, but the pure versatility of the fighter is too good to just make 'obsolete.' I mean, the fact that the first level you don't get a bonus feat is 5th level, how can this be weak?

And it definately doesn't make the Psychic Warrior obsolete. Access to psionic feats and powers alone makes the PW a killer class.

All three, I think, have their place, and all are great classes (IMO, of course :D ).

The Warblade isn't proficient in ranged weapons unless they can be weilded in melee also. Nothing from the Tome of Battle can make a feat intensive ranged build that can compete with a fighter or ranger built for the job.

This statement is pure nonsense. Please use the correct terms. Pardon the use of the term feat without a capital F. Maneuvers is a more politically correct term.

Also, I'm not sure you understood what I meant by tactical. The Warblade is still primarily concerned with damage, whereas Fighters can pursue more tactical options such as disabling their opponents through special attacks like trip. I contest your definition of tactical by inferring that the Warblade has consistent access (unlike the Crusader) to effective tactical Maneuvers such as those within the White Raven Style and in a lesser case, Stone Dragon or Diamond Mind.

Too bad he'll miss out on all of the good ranged feats. I suppose a Warblade who goes into Bloodstorm Blade could be a decent ranged combatant, though. I will concede that a Warblade 20 is weaker at ranged combat than Fighter 20, but the addition of a single prestige class such as Bloodstorm Blade or Ruby Knight Vindicator surpasses the fighter in the ranged category assuming the fighter, too, choses a single prestige class of his own.

The Fighter doesn't have versatility. His versatility is a myth spurned on by people who delude themselves into believing "Lots of bonus feats" is the same as "Every feat he wants when he wants it"

I mean, the fact that the first level you don't get a bonus feat is 5th level, how can this be weak?

You mean 3rd. Cause y'know, normal level based feats aren't bonus feats. 5th level is just the pure fighter's first truly dead level where he gets absolutely nothing.

A fighter is not particularly versatile. That is, he has his certain abilities that are locked in, and that's all he can do.

Fighters are incredibly versatile. Any type of combat you want to do, a fighter can make it happen as efficiently as any other fighting class.
