Books only for monks? [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-27-04, 12:29 PM I am looking for books that are gear to monks and only monks. I am looking for the most updated, but if there is a 1st or 2nd ed bok I will look into it as well.

Any clues?

03-27-04, 12:42 PM There is the Quintessential Monk by Mongoose publishing. Its a pure monk supplement with lots of nifty 5-lvl prcs and good ideas for monk characters.

Check with your DM to make sure he'll allow it, but it is much much more balanced then many of the other 'Quintessential' series.

Its definately something I'd allow in my campaign.

You also might want to take a look at Martial Arts Mayhem and Blood and Fists. Both of these books are aimed at the d20 Modern campaign, but there might be some ideas in there as well that you can use.

03-27-04, 02:03 PM I highly recommend Beyond Monks (Chainmail Bikini, pdf file) as a great supplement for players wishing to play monks. There are a multitude of new feats and styles, which exponentially increases the number of possible monk builds. Basically, if you want to play a monk you can't go wrong with Beyond Monks. Its mostly a mechanical text (feats, PrCs, styles) but they're well-written and balanced.

Another product worth getting is Quintessential Monk (Mongoose). Though it has less mechanical elements than Beyond Monks, it has a lot more flavor text and cool concepts like how to establish a school or monastary, martial secrets (abilities you generally learn from secretive masters for cool-but-not-gamebreaking abilities) and some good PrCs. I actually think the authors overdid it on the whole 'balance' thing and made the PrCs a little too hard to qualify for (especially as a monk), but its still a great product.
