Attune Bow:

A bow mage has a magical resonance set up between him and his bow. This resonance requires 1 week of meditation to set up. The bow must be masterwork to have a resonance set up in it for it to work. A bow mage will always start of as a masterwork short bow if it is not within his budget to afford one. A bow mage can only be attuned to one bow at a time.

Greater Sudden Silent:

You may replicate the effect of the silent metamagic feat a number of days equal to the users intelligence modifier.

Spells:

A bow mage may select any spell from any spell list as long as it abides by the following conditions:
The spell may not be directly offensive.
The spell may not come from the school of necromancy.
The spell may not conjure creatures.
The spell may not heal damage

A Bow Mage learns spells by scribing them in a spell book, use the same rules as wizards for determining how many spells they have in their spell book.

Spontaneous Spells:

A bow mage learns a small number of spells that they can cast spontaneously, the amount of spell they can spontaneously cast is half their level rounded up. Once this choice has been made it can’t be undone except by the means of a Psychic Reformation.

Modifications to Spell list:

In regards to the following spells use the spell level mentioned here instead of the level in the core books.

Lvl 3: Arrow Storm, Melf’s Acid Arrow
Lvl 4: Night Stalker Transformation

Modifications to the following spells:

The spell Melf’s Acid Arrow when cast by a bow mage creates and acidic Arrow that will deal the same damage as the spell but is not launched but the bow mage can use it as ammunition for his bow, The arrow will last 1 hour until it becomes useless.

Additions to Spell Components:

All spells cast by a bow mage require him to have his Attuned bow as a focus. All Material components costing less then one gold are no longer required for the casting of the spell.

It looks like a possibly interesting class, but I think your crunch doesnt work.
1) What does attune Bow do?
2) Are you really creating a class whose corebusiness (aside from castign) is shooting arrows, with one attack on a bab of 6 at lvl 20??? That seems slightly underpowered.
3) It's going to be really anoying seeking your spells out of the PHB and other core-books with the restrictions you made.

edit: 4) Are the spontaneous spells on top of the normal amount of spells? From what lvl spells can the caster choose to make them natural?

I think your description has more holes then the Bow Mage will ever punch in an enemies armor.

Umm I just clarified it since my table making skills on this forum suck, they have a 3/4 BaB. The attuned bow is required for all spell casting a Bow mage makes as I think it says under changes to spell components. I couldn't be othered making a whole new spell list so i just added restrictions on spells that wouldn't suit the flavor I am going for, although I haven't deiced what that is except fot the facrt I don't want them blowing things up with magic...

Thanks for the input

I catch your drift, and although it may look like it, I don't want to burn it down or so. Have to admit I missed the part explaining where the attuned bow comes in.
It's just I still think you REALLY have to think this one over... If it's not going to do any offensive spells AND it's not going to hit a castle when he stands in front of it, it's not going to do much good.

The idea behind this class is to focus more on utility spells and spells that buf people... I forgot to say in tthe description And I will do it now that they are actually spell book casters and they use a spell book... lol I cant believe I forgot that.

I catch your drift, and although it may look like it, I don't want to burn it down or so. Have to admit I missed the part explaining where the attuned bow comes in.

The archer has to have his speicific bow to cast his spells. Though his is basicly giving them a free feat, eschew materials.

Spells:

A bow mage may select any spell from any spell list as long as it abides by the following conditions:
The spell may not be directly offensive.
The spell may not come from the school of necromancy.
The spell may not conjure creatures.
The spell may not heal damage

If you want people playing that class you better make him have offensive spells or his going to runing from the party fighter.

Thanks for the comments and I have taken what you have said into account. To be honest If i were a wizard I would choose eschew amterials over this since if you lose your bow you are screwed for a week, thus a really annoying DM could really screw the player of this class over. OK I will update it later once I have the time to, I will allow a small amount of offensive spells known, not sure how I will do it yet so give me some time. I am a little busy atm.

I hear people complaning about the lack of offensive spells.. I'm thinking what if I create some spells that are offensive and a bow mage can use. Example:

Explosive Arrow.
Level: Bow Mage 3
Duration: 1 round a level or until shot
Target:One Arrow touched
Range: Touch/ 20 feet burst radius. See text

When shot this Arrow will explode when it hits a target, If it misses the target it will explode an the square behind. The explosion deals 1d3 fire and 1D3 slashing damage in a 20 foot burst from the point of the arrows detanation.

Should I create spell like this or allow them something similier to what a war mage gets and allows them to learn spell outside of their school of magic or should I just let them choose offensive spell? I would really appreciate responses.

Thank You in advance.

Before getting too crazy about this, you should take a good solid look at three classes: Arcane Archer in the DMs Guide, and Order of the Bow and Kensai from Complete Warrior. This will help you understand the mechanics of much of what you want to do

The Kensai can imbue his weapon with magical abilities in 24 hours. Order of the Bow gets an additional d8 every odd level. Arcane Archer can magically enhance his arrows

Ok thanks I shall look into some of the mechanics and then I shall redesign the class if I see something that suits it. Thanks for the ideas

I am thinking of changing Suden strike to the Precise shot from the order of the bow initiate... I also think I may have to make up a few offensive spells for them... to much to do and to much to think about...

Updated gave them 1/2 Sudden strike and 1/2 ranged precision.

I would make this a PrC but there is already the Arcane Archer so assuming this is for the stereotypical wizard/archer thing I would give them casting like a Bards but prepared (including needing Int not Cha) and give them some nice archer bonus feats and abilties (same power as bardic music mainly).

Really this class is too lcose to many that already exist but making it a Bard that uses Int and a bow might just be enough to make a niche for itself.

Good luck! :P

Updated gave them 1/2 Sudden strike and 1/2 ranged precision.

Make it one or the other since the only real difference is damage dice. I'd go d8. Keep it simple, slick.

Give the class a delayed Arcane Spell Progression. This will keep them from being all powerful. Arcane casters with no offensive spells is a mere curiousity. Give them the ability to ensorcel their arrows. Give them Shot On The Run in the lower levels before they gain the ability to cast spells and give them Cast On The Run once they gain spell abilities as class abilities. With a bit of juggling, this class can have a 1/1 BA. You can make this a base class. You can use the Ranger as a basic template

My new class is called "Wand Fighter" It's a fighter who gets a "weapon specialization" in magic. This enables him to cast all wizard spells and no armour penalty.

What do you think?

I think the idea interesting enough that you should give it it's own thread. We can discuss it in detail then

Get eberron and the artificier instead.
I could concieve of it as a warrior focusing on magic items.

Umm I went with the half of each so that I dont start seeing 30D6 sneak attack damage at higher levels/ also i like the idea of the ranged precision since you don't have to catch an opponent of guard... but yo do have to take only one attack... Also I think i may make a few offensive arrow spells... but not to many...
