So one of my players was thinking of being a fighter but was interested in being more a bar brawler. We thought about it and thought that would be cool, however the problem with that is their is no point (in my mind) to make a unarmed fighter that’s not a monk, other then role playing reasons. Now we have come to the problem of wanting to role play a non monk unarmed fighter, and we can't think of any kind of build that would work with it. Really, I can't think of any kind of build that would be functional for an unarmed fighter that isn't just going monk, however the back story of being raised in a church and also just having to be lawful doesn’t make sense to the character hes making.
So i was thinking of making a brawler prestige class, one that a fighter, barbarian or ranger...maybe even paladin could fit into well, and to make it a non monk class i was thinking of putting as a prerequisite you can not have improved unarmed damage before the prestige class.
Now i know their is battle dancer, but again it doesn’t work to what my friend wants to make, it would work better then a monk, but not much better.

Any help would be great, i am also going to start making the class, but if someone already has something of the same idea please post.
Thanks

Well, ToB introduced Superior Unarmed Strike, a feat that gave you scaling unarmed damage, although a bit weaker than the monk (it reaches 1d12 eventually). Another option I know of is the Shou Disciple from Unapproachable East, a good and fairly adaptable class for any warrior who wants to be a monk or a monk who wants to be a better warrior. It either adds to your monk damage progression or gives you a separate one, ending at 2d6 at lvl 5. Would any of the above be applicable in your game?
