With the release (or upcoming release) of Complete Scoundrel I was wondering what classes (if any) are best suited for seeing through the smoke & mirrors used by tricksters. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

PS: Anyone have any info on the PrC Gray Guard that is shown in the picture section for Scoundrel? Thanx

Send a rogue to catch a scoundrel. I was thinking a ranger might be good, but they do not have sense motive as a class skill.

I say bard. Bards have Sense Motive as a class skill, plus several spells which help to discern liars and deception. On the other hand, the typical bard has so many class skills they usually don't invest in sense motive, in which case your best bet is either a paladin or another rogue.

While magical means can be useful, such as zone of truth, they are also limited in their application.
Anything with sense motive and the skill points to put into it are going to be the best all-around at this.
There are only four core classes with sense motive as a class skill, and going from fewest skill points to most they are paladin, monk, bard, and rogue.

With enough luck, you can try fighting fire with fire with a bluff check and get them to 'fess up, I guess. Sorcerers and bards (especially the latter) can use their magic to put on a great charade and fool even a master conman that they are their friend and want to help.
