(reposted from Eberron Classes in hopes of garnering a bit more feedback)

A while ago I posted in general Eberron that I was comming back to D&D after a long hiatus. I'm a 2nd edition transplant and plan to play a Kalashtar Soulknife that will eventually take levels in Psion or Ativist or something similar (I like the whole mind/body warrior idea). As I sit down to actually roll this character up however, I find myself a bit overwhelmed by the massive influx of new rules my mind is attempting to consume.

New Players Handbook
New Campaign Book
New Races of Eberron Book
New Psionic 3.5 Book
etc.

All of this has been read literally in the last few days and as you can imagine, my head is awash. I know it will take one good play session (which starts tommorrow) for the rules to begin solidifying and then I'll be on my way. As I'm joining an existing campaign, and my character will begin at level 5, I want feedback from existing players to help me avoid any errors in character creation or feat choices, etc.

I want my character to be strong martialy, a lot of work is going into my miniatures mindblade as it's one of the things that drew me to the class. That and Psionics. I think the new edition of Psionics is far and away better than the old and I'm going to really enjoy my characters use of it.

Anyhow theres the basics, if you were in my shoes how would build this character and why? I truly appreciate any and all input.
