building an acrobat? [Archive] - Wizards Community

07-02-07, 11:01 PM I've been wanting to try an acrobat (a permormer instead of a monk) as a charactor for some time, but I haven't seen any in the official books. I've been DMing for a while and I'm finialy getting a chance to play so I want to try this but my new DM is pretty by the rules. I'm planning ahead on my charactor.
I'm thinking of someone with balance tumble perform etc. and the monk's soft fall and unarmed damage maybe fast movement and AC bonuses

Is there an acrobat out there I just haven't seen?
Is there a way around the conflicting allignment restrictions of monk/bard?
Has anyone had any success with this type of character?

07-02-07, 11:02 PM I think I remember something about there being a "battle dancer" in Dragon Compendium. Don't remember it completely, but it was monkish and used Perform (dance) in some way.

07-02-07, 11:45 PM The Thief Acrobat PrC from Complete Adventurer is aptly named, but the Exemplar PrC, also from Complete Adventurer would make a better performing Acrobat. You could combine the two, say Rogue 5/Thief Acrobat 5/Exemplar 10 over 20 levels. Max out Balance, Climb, Escape Artist, Jump, and Tumble.

07-02-07, 11:55 PM You could do almost the same thing with a Monk, the skill points would be tighter, and it would be harder to meet the Diplomacy 6 requirement for the Exemplar, but if human, or with a high Int, it is very doable. I just finished palying a Rogue 6/Thief Acrobat 3 (I had to delay Thief Acrobat 1 level because I also was the trapfinder/lock picker). It was alot of fun, although not quite optimized. If you go the Rogue route as opposed to Monk, Acrobatic Backstab is a must Skill Trick (found in Complete Scoundrel). Actually, there are several tricks in CS that are useful for a dextrous build. If I did it again, I think I would do an Eberron character. Shifter Monk 10/Rogue 10 (Ascetic Rogue Feat from Complete Adventurer) with no PrCs (although the stat bonuses from Weretouched Master, although nerfed by Errata, would still be hard to pass up. In that case, I might go Monk/Ranger with Ascetic Hunter). It would not be a performer, more of a Combat Acrobat, utilizing skill tricks from Complete Scoundrel. Might have a longer lifespan.
