| sburnhamh05-20-04, 07:47 PM | I'm going to be playing a character in an altered D&D 3.5 game. The premise of the game is that the world has gone through it's technological evolution through the 1940s or 50s, at which point nukes were used to end a world war and humans were pushed back to stone age technology. In the game time will have advanced to a D&D equivalent world as far as technology goes. The races and monsters will be explained as mutations resulting from the long ago radiation and D&D will reign supreme!!!.... Oh, so back to my question. I'm playing a cleric and I want his religion to be based on the holiness of pre-holocaust artifacts and writing. His 'bible' will be based on an adulterated version of the U.N. charter and his first assignments will be to find and research artifacts from the pre-holocaust. I've never played a cleric before, never mind having to modify one like this. Any suggestions? |

Now that, friends, is severely awesome. I'd be interested in hearing more, both about this version of the U.N. charter you're basing your dogma on, and about the way this'll work mechanically in-game. Tell us more! |

There are also more than enough references to performing actions or obligations 'in good faith' that could be swithced to 'of good faith' to throw a religious light on the writings. The world will be post appocalitic, so I'd imagine some language would survive and be handed down, but it leaves lots of room open for interpretation. The original Charter was signed in San Francisco, so a future read of it could go something like: This charter, signed in the city of Saint Francis, in the year of our lord 1942, by those of good faith.... It could definitely lead to a religious reading. The 'cleric's back story may originate in an asian influenced region, so the idea of the 'Unity' may lend to a quasi asian cleric/monk researcher with a taoist leaning. I'm not sure how to use the D&D tools to build the actual stats for him though. I know I'll focus him in part on healing, then maybe the other domain can be research. The party will be mostly fighters, with a couple of real tanks and at least one archer, so they'll need lots of healing but should be tough enough for me to build cleric levels and maybe multiclass w/ a few monk levels for combat ...I really don't know. It will be a lot of fun to develop the idea though. Far more possibilities than the full ogre barbarian I took over as an NPC, though he's still been a lot of fun to play w/ a large sized greatclub +2 w/ knockback and an extra range due to size. Can you say attack of opportunity? |
