Hi all, Edymnion,

how’s this idea for a change...?
:whatsthis
A 7th level sorcerer has knowledge of the 1st lvl spell Lesser
Electric Orb (Evoc.) since level 1…

Through intimate knowledge and experience with the Raw Arcane
Energy Manipulation (read known spell) resulting in this spell, he
should at a certain point be able to better manipulate the raw
arcane energies that make up for the spell effect…

Now this sorcerer turns level 8 and gets to select his first 4th
level spell…

Instead of selecting a new spell he should also be allowed to let
one of his “Raw Arcane Energy Manipulations” (read known
spells) “evolve” to a higher status…

The effect is that he has learned to “better” cast this spell,
making it the 4th level Spell Electric Orb (4th Evoc.) …

As such he would be allowed to select a new known 1st level
spell, possibly evolving that one too...
:uh-huh:
Spells can only evolve into higher level spells of the same School
if they are of similar Energy, and Effect where Enchantments and
other schools are concerned…

Eg. Lesser Electric Orb (1st Evoc.) could also evolve into Lightning
bolt (3rd Evoc.) but Shocking Grasp (1st Trans) could not…
Suggestion (3rd Ench) could evolve into Dominate Person (5th
Ench) but Charm Person (1st Ench) could not

because:

There is too much difference between the two spell effects and
the right “evolutionary step” between these spells is the
Suggestion (3rd Ench) spell…

This Slight alteration of the sorcerer class adds a lot more flavor,
as it seems logical to me that a Sorcerer more than a wizard
should be able to improve his spells, thus going further than JUST
adding dice upon gaining levels…

Also perhaps not more than 1-2 spell evolutions, or 3 “spell level
increases” per gained level r allowed, i’m not sure about this yet…
I think this improves the Sorcerer class for quite some bit as you
can trade in the lower level spells which you normally wouldn’t
use after selecting a higher level spell (read more powerfull)
with similar effects, also you will more readily choose similar but
more powerfull spells as you progress…

Secondly, this provides for a chance to improve a wrong known
spell choice, thus possibly making it more usefull…

It has worked fine for me and my party for 1.5 years

Well, the best to all you reading
