| not Yoda08-10-07, 11:52 AM | I was planning on playing either a cleric or druid in Ebberon. As far as druids go, is the shapeshifting variant in PHB II better or more fun? As far as both go, Are there any sneaky ways to raise the DC's for spells? What are some good feats for druids/clerics? What domains and feats make for interesting play in Ebberon? Thanks in advance for any advice/input. noy Yoda |
| TheCarrionCrawler08-10-07, 01:05 PM | First off, it's Eberron. One "b" and two "r". :P Second, my group just started a new campaign. Half the party are druids and they all took the PHB2 variant. We're level 3, almost 4, and so far, no complaints. |
| Issabella08-10-07, 01:24 PM | go druid. Eberron has the most broken PRC ever, for any class for druids. Look in Faiths of Eberron at the planer Sheppard. |
| InkBlot08-10-07, 02:49 PM | Or don't, if you don't want to make your DM cry and/or slap you. As far as druids go, is the shapeshifting variant in PHB II better or more fun? "Better" is hard to say. It depends on what you're after. Wild Shape is more powerful. The Shapeshifting variant won't let you make barbarians feel small in the pants. On the other hand, Shapeshifting could be more fun, since you get it earlier and can do it more often. Are there any sneaky ways to raise the DC's for spells? Not that I know of. There's Owl's Wisdom and Spell Focus of course, but those aren't sneaky. You should look at the Eberron Campaign Setting book. There are many druidic sects in Eberron, each with their own goals and traditions. They also have different feats and PrCs which help set them apart mechanically. There's also the excellent Dragonshard articles, The Druids Of Khorvaire (parts I (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ebds/20051017a), II (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ebds/20051024a), III (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ebds/20051107a), and IV (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ebds/20051114a)) |
| navar10008-10-07, 06:13 PM | What is it about Planar Shepherd that people go gaga over it? I don't have the book and have no need to get it. I understand copywright rules, so I don't expect a copy of the tex. Just the gist of it would be fine. Is it full spellcasting with better wild shaping ability? How is it better? |
| RadicalTaoist08-10-07, 06:17 PM | Planar Bubble is an ability that, succinctly put, allows the Planar Shepherd to surround himself with an area of a small radius that has the traits of a plane of his choice. This allows many abuses, the worst known being emulating Dal Quor with your Planar Bubble. Dal Quor has the accelerated time trait, so everything goes 10 times faster. You get 10 rounds inside that planar bubble for every round the world outside gets. The gist of that should be obvious. |
| ChimericalWolf08-10-07, 06:50 PM | Also, from what I remember, you can turn into things that grant wishes...and grant yourself wishes! |
| TiwazTyrsfist08-10-07, 07:21 PM | Yeah, Planar Sheppard is Broken, in an OMGWTFBBQPWND sort of way. That aside, one of the fun things to remember is that in Eberron A> your alignment does not have to be associated with your diety (LG gods can have CE priests) and B> you can cast spells with conflicting alignment descriptors (Good chars casting Inflict spells). Personally, I'd like to play a warforged Cleric of the Becomming god. |
| yrogerg08-10-07, 07:30 PM | Also, from what I remember, you can turn into things that grant wishes...and grant yourself wishes! Not really. Pretty much all extraplanar creatures capable of granting Wishes are only able to grant it to others, per those monster descriptions. Admittedly, in a party of adventurers, this is a non-issue, but you can never grant them to yourself. |
| Yorath_theWolf08-10-07, 07:42 PM | as has been stated earlier, the Shapeshifting varient isn't better. it's actually a nerf. your Druid still kicks ten kinds of ass, just not as blatently as he did with Wildshape. _personally_ with a few minor tweaks(proper movement rates for the various forms, proper abilities... cause let's face it, turning into a fire elemental should damned well get you their special ability of Burn for example), I find shapeshift better. there's less accounting, less twinkery, less generally annoyance with it than with Wild Shape. ummm, ways to boost DC's in Eberron is hte same as it is anywhere else, attribute boosters. good feats: Ashbound Summoning for the Druid if you can convence your gm of allowing an Ashbound Druid into the group. look at hte various Intiate feats for the Druid Sects, Wardens and Greensinger the best 2 really. Wordly Focus(FoE) rocks. it means ya gotta be a cleric of the Soverin Host, but that's hardly a bad thing. |
