| PrinceCurtis11-16-06, 08:12 PM | Is there a base Class out there official or not that focuses on unleashing energy from a blade in various way? Such as smashing it on the ground or throw aerial blades? |
| Cael11-16-06, 08:14 PM | Is there a base Class out there official or not that focuses on unleashing energy from a blade in various way? Such as smashing it on the ground or throw aerial blades? I am not sure what you mean? If you are talking about the whole Chinese martial arts thing of punching the ground and getting a crack leading up to the enemies, no, not unless you use a spell... |
| travellersside11-16-06, 08:23 PM | Arguably a duskblade can do something like that - at least, you can channel spells through your weapon. It's not very like that, but it's in that vague direction. Really, it comes down to the duskblade's spell-list, how flexible the DM would be in subbing out various spells, and what exactly you want in the first place. |
| PrinceCurtis11-16-06, 08:27 PM | Drive my blade into the ground and cause a line of engery to hit the oponet, causing a small explosion (Legend of the dragoon). Or swing my sword and throw an energy blade. Yes martial artisty but more with the anime feeling. |
| daganisoraan11-16-06, 08:32 PM | Play a soulknife. You don't have a material weapon. But you could have all the feeling of anime. |
| Kazeofwinds11-16-06, 08:33 PM | The closest thing to anime-ish martial arts is probably tome of battle. Swordsages can toss blasts of fire from their weapons at higher levels. |
| PrinceCurtis11-16-06, 08:35 PM | thanks keep em coming and i do have a soulknife of the ultimate style... |
| DwarvinJedi11-16-06, 08:36 PM | Tome of Battle |
| magmer211-16-06, 09:22 PM | Hammer of Moradin has something like this. |
| Tempest Stormwind11-16-06, 09:24 PM | Tome of Battle Seconded. EVERYTHING in this book is based on that. Smashing into the ground, causing explosions? Stone Dragon or Desert Wind style. Throwing the blades? Bloodstorm Blade, or any of the reach-increasing attacks. Igniting the blade mid-strike or focusing your inner fire? Desert Wind style. Screaming "FIVE SHADOW CREEPING ICE ENERVATION STRIKE!" before poking someone in the chest and having them die? Very yes. (Note: While shouting the name of the attack before delivering it isn't required, it's very, very recommended. :p ) Of course, it won't be a *perfect* fit. However, what you don't like, you can rename. A friend of mine will be playing a swordsage/Master of Nine in an upcoming game alongside me. His character focuses on the Setting Sun and Diamond Mind styles, with a touch of White Raven, Iron Heart, Shadow Hand, and Stone Dragon (yes, that many. Swordsage + Master of Nine will do that). You wouldn't know it if you looked, though, since every last one of his maneuvers is named after a water theme. No mechanics were changed, just the descriptions and the names. The various throws were named after different types of wave-like phenomina. His speed-increasing stance is renamed Riptide Surge. Every White Raven "wolf-pack" themed attack is now referencing piranhas instead. His Diamond Mind strikes are themed after the kraken. Counter Charge, which redirects a charging foe away from you? Turn the Tides. Look for a maneuver which does, mechanically, what you want. Then change the fluff to match. You'll be amazed at the results. (I should note that very few of them are good at pulling off area attacks. The closest you'll get are a few movement-based Desert Wind maneuvers, such as Salamander Charge, Ring of Fire, and Rising Phoenix. So, while Legend of Dragoon can't be *ENTIRELY* matched, the Tales series probably can.) |
| Belgian Waffle11-16-06, 10:57 PM | DIAMOND NIGHTMARE BLADE! Honestly, I think it should be mandatory to say every manuever's name as you're performing them. In capital letters and bolded. Plus you can totally change some of the manuevers to fit what you want. Like you should be able to get away with changing most of the desert wind manuevers to do some other type of damage other than fire. Just look at what they do mechanically and adjust accordingly. |

ELDER MOUNTAIN HAMMER! Wow, you're right. That just feels awesome. |
| OneWinged4ngel11-16-06, 11:35 PM | Is there a base Class out there official or not that focuses on unleashing energy from a blade in various way? Such as smashing it on the ground or throw aerial blades? There sure are. Duskblades, Tome of Battle classes, gishes with the right spells, some prestige classes, my own Rebalanced Paladin and some of the Duskblade Prestige Classes I've made... |
| Glensather11-16-06, 11:47 PM | I'm glad I'm the only one who pictures the names sounding way to anime-engrish. GIRALLON WINDMILL FLESH RIP! |
| MarcelusDragonsbane11-17-06, 12:00 AM | LEAPING TADPOLE FLAIL! .... I think I may have chosen a poor maneuver. |
| Bowmore11-17-06, 12:06 AM | I love this thread. MITHRAL TORNADOOOOOOO! |
| Majick11-17-06, 12:38 AM | I haven't actually got the Tome of Battle yet, so i'm just gonna make one up! ;) SALACIOUS SANGUINARY SLAP OF SANCTIFIED SACROSANCT SORCERY! WEEEEEEEEEE-HEHEHEHEEEEE! :D |
| Bowmore11-17-06, 01:11 AM | Oh oh, I have to do this. I just have to. TWO-FISTED MONKEY STYLE ATTACK! |
| Tevin Kevlak11-17-06, 01:19 AM | Moderately Annoying Paper Cut! |
| Deity11-17-06, 02:30 AM | ANGRY CROW TAKES FLIGHT! I'm hoping at least one person here knows who Hak Foo is... |
| Archangel6211-17-06, 02:38 AM | ANGRY ASSAULTIVE ATOMIC APPROPRIATELY ALLITERATIVE ATTACK Sorry, the part of my brain that was reading literary terms was on when I created this one. |
| Just another user11-17-06, 03:28 AM | Drive my blade into the ground and cause a line of engery to hit the oponet, causing a small explosion (Legend of the dragoon). Or swing my sword and throw an energy blade. Yes martial artisty but more with the anime feeling. Build a sword using spellcaster (any way you wish) and change the fluff. Throw energy blades? magic missile with another name. Cause a line of energy to hit the opponent? lightining bolt. Etc. That is the basic idea, elaborate on it, for example build a fighter/sorcerer pick the more appropriate spells and eventually specify that to cast your spells you need to have a weapon in hand. Just ask your GM if he agree but I see no problems with it. |

| Orchomenos11-17-06, 09:14 AM | The soulknive can throw his blade to an enemy, and the blade automatically reappear in his hand. With one level dip of psychic warrior, you can use the power Stomp, which precipitates a psychokinetic shock wave that travels along the ground, toppling creatures and loose objects. Every creature touching the ground in a 20' cone fall prone and take 1d4 nonlethal damage. Weither it comes from your foot or from your blade is flavorful. |

Seriously. 2) If you mutliclass it, you're stuck with either all your Soulknife levels being dead, or using a suboptimal weapon. You'd be better off as a psywar or nomad with Call Weaponry, or an incarnate (who, with one soulmeld out of the many he gets, can be a better soulknife than the soulknife). And besides, neither of those have mechanical justification for suddenly going "RISING PHOENIX RING OF FIRE SALAMANDER CHARGE!", flipping out, killing people, and setting them aflame while cracking bad jokes about being on fire. Not necessarily in that order. |
| PrinceCurtis11-17-06, 11:24 AM | touche folks, i'll have to deal with it myself. I'l make a class with it's own "special manuvuers" Name idea anyone? and yes i have tome of battle, it's one of the first books i got (which tells you how long it took me to get my own books rather then borrowing them....) |
| Rulebook11-17-06, 11:28 AM | ADJECTIVE NOUN VERB! heh |

| pallandrome11-17-06, 02:21 PM | Oh, there is a great book for this sort of thing, and EVERYTHING in it feels anime out the wazoo. It's called Exalted. :D -runs- |
| Tempest Stormwind11-17-06, 03:28 PM | Oh, there is a great book for this sort of thing, and EVERYTHING in it feels anime out the wazoo. It's called Exalted. :D -runs- Ah, Exalted. GM: So, let me get this straight. You're trying to catch him by surprise while being in plain sight, using a skill you don't have (and indeed, can't have at this point) to do something it doesn't do, and you're trying to do it yesterday? Player: Yup. GM: Okay, roll. |

| DocBeard11-17-06, 04:52 PM | I do like that Exalted has a mechanic for "Okay, you can do crazy powergaming things BUT ONLY IF YOU MAKE THEM SOUND AWESOME." |
| PrinceCurtis11-17-06, 05:29 PM | :ayyyy!: I said anime like not frikkin DBZ.... Will Someone please permanately kill Goku please? BTW DELTA BLADE; THREE WAYS TO DEATH ! feels good |
