Under the 'animal companions' rules, it says you can share spells but not spell-like abilities.

Under the Druid abilities section it says wild shape is a supernatural ability, not a spell-like ability, but otherwise operates like the polymorph spell (albeit with limited shapes to chose from)

To me it sounds like you can wildshape your companion so long as they stay close.

Have I got this right?

No, the wildshape ability is not a spell no matter how similar it functions like one.

Also, wildshape no longer functions like (at least it no longer makes reference to) polymorph, due to the errata (http://www.wizards.com/dnd/files/PHBErrata02062006.zip).
