No. The animal companion is not a familiar. And when talking to the animal with the spell, you still must take into account the animal's low intelligence and different perspective. An animal companion can never, spell or no spell, give a detailed, intelligent "report."
MongooseFamiliar 10-23-07, 11:23 AM	There is a Ranger substitution in Complete Champion that you might look at. You give up your wild empathy in return for Speak with Animals/Speak with Plants three times per day. You wouldn't be able to look through his eyes, but you would be able to ask the beastie what he saw.

Not unless she develops the sense link (http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/psionicPowersQtoW.html#sense-link) psychic power, such as through taking levels in psion (http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/psionicPsion.html) or wilder (http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/psionicWilder.html). It's only a 1st level power, so you can get it with just a one level dip. I've done this a couple times with characters and it's highly effective for scouting. Golden Rule Of Psionics: You can't spend more power points than your manifester level.
