Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Healers are proficient with all simple weapons and with light armor. Additionally, a healer who uses metal armor or any kind of shield is severely hampered. The armor of a healer is restricted by traditional oaths, not simply training. A healer knows how to wear light metal armor and could become proficient with medium or heavy armor, but wearing metal armor or bearing a shield would violate her oath and suppress her healer powers. Her ethos requires a certain vulnerability that allows her to more fully empathize with those in their care. A healer who uses prohibited armor is unable to cast healer spells or use arny of her supernatural or spell-like class features while doing so and for 24 hours after the armor is taken off." At first glance it seems like Druids, yes they can, but Her ethos requires a certain vulnerability that allows her to more fully empathize with those in their care. This would imply otherwise, and that maybe any very highly serious attempt to fix the Healers AC class is not really in tune with the class. Such as: +5 Leather, +5 device, and +5 other device for +15 AC. The Druid class basically says anything goes as long as its not metal, therefore Dragonhide is rather nice. It even suggests making wooden armor. |
| Douglas Zuver08-09-05, 03:39 PM | Perhaps, the whole question is pointless... By the time one can afford to send over 3,000 gp for the dragonhide plate, a lot of things have already happened. And also, wasting not one but two feats to be able to use heavy armor? When you have: scribe scroll, diehard, self sufficient, rapid reload, weapon finesse, track, skill focus, and many other feats are available??? But I thought I would ask anyway. Thanks |

The idea is that being incased in metal is a lot diferant then being incased in Hide (even from a dragon.) |
| caeruleus08-10-05, 04:04 AM | Given the ethos, it would not be unreasonable to disallow magical bonuses to AC also. If it's all about being vulnerable, +5 leather armor would be less acceptable normal chainmail. That sort of prohibition on metal armor doesn't make sense in a world of magic. |

Rereading it all now, I definately agree with your point of view. Thanks! I just picked up the "Arms and Equipment Guide" which has lots of non-metal choices of armor. |
