| RiTz2103-17-05, 03:59 PM | Greetings Experts !! Is it possible for a Monk/Barbarian to use his RAGE ability AND his flurry of Blows at the SAME time ? Where is that rule located ? Thanks !! RiTz21 |
| Drachasor03-17-05, 04:05 PM | Yes, he may use both at once. Nothing in the Rage description denies the use of Fury. -Drachasor |
| GemX03-17-05, 04:08 PM | I don't think he could rage in the middle of the flurry. Both in the same round? Sure, as long as hes not lawful. Rules? Flurry is a Full-Round action. You dont lose monk abilities from losing alignment, and Raging is a free action (That you can't use in response to someone else's action.) |
| Rialto03-17-05, 04:13 PM | well, monk is lawfull, Barbarian is non-lawful. That is Monk/barbarian is impossible. Monk/Ex-Barbarian is, and barbarian/ Ex-monk is also. :) |
| GemX03-17-05, 04:16 PM | (Ex-)Barb/Monk, No. Can't rage as a lawful. You can always go back to the Barbarian (With the appropriate Alignment change of course.) Ex-Monk/Barb, Raging Flurry away! :D Now that you mention it... Wouldn't a 16Monk/4Barb Flurry have 6 attacks? |
| Creeg03-17-05, 05:16 PM | Now that you mention it... Wouldn't a 16Monk/4Barb Flurry have 6 attacks? Yes, Yes it would. One of my favorite characters ever was a 16 monk/ 4 fighter flurry with 6 attacks around |
| tentacle_mike03-21-05, 01:39 AM | Just remember to always get monk levels first. Ex-monks retain all abilities, ex-barbarians don't. |
| Nuntius12803-21-05, 09:34 AM | You could just take some levels as Sohei(OA)/Monk, so you get the benefits of a Flurried Frenzy and remain Lawful at the same time. |
| Barloch03-21-05, 10:02 AM | Nothin says you can't. Go nuts! |
| Quirriff03-21-05, 10:10 AM | Monk/Barbarians don't make sence I thought you couldn't get any more stupid than a Druid/Wizard, or Paladin/Rogue. |
| Vasarius03-21-05, 10:50 AM | Both druid/wizard and paladin/rogue make sense, they might not be typical but they're certainly plausible. A wizard could get tired of all his musty old tomes and moping in libraries and decide to strut his stuff in the wild, eventually realising he likes it, oh so much, better and eventually start to revere nature. Of course since he's been trained in the arcane arts he might still read up and practice them in the wild. Paladin/Rogue, just an agent of the Church, I imagine Sune in FR has them? |
| Barloch03-21-05, 10:59 AM | Monk/Barbarians don't make sence I thought you couldn't get any more stupid than a Druid/Wizard, or Paladin/Rogue. lol funny you'd mention that just as PrCs designed for those setup have been introduced!!! arcane heirophant and shadowbane inquisitor. :P Now a combo that doesn't make sense is a barb/sorc.... BUT ITS FUN WHEN YOUR A RAGE MAGE BWAHAHAHAH!!!!.... ahem |
| Tuneless Bard03-21-05, 11:07 AM | sorry....ive thought and ive thought....and i know there is a prestige classed based on it....but there is nothing about Paladin/Rogue that makes any sense to me...nothing..........nothing at all........... as for monk/barbarian....its been stated that its not possible in the direct sense....but can be worked with if you take monk first and are an orc/human/halfelf so you dont get XP penaltys... However, I would argue that a monk turning barbarian would take quite a bit of ingame trauma in order to get him to change....why would he shirk all his values and turn to savagry? Unless the game turns the character this way to a great degree, i would only allow this change if it were done at character creation with a really good back story to explain it...which would mean they would have to be starting at 2nd level at least... Your better off being a Singh Rager(sp?) PrC from the oriental adventures book....its a...god forbid....monk that rages and is still Lawful Good.... |
| Rickiel03-21-05, 01:42 PM | While mechanically possible, Ex-monk to Barbarian, it would have to have a good amount of reasoning and role-playing behind it. I would allow it personally. As for Paladin/Rogue...I'm sorry, you have that backwards. Begin as a Rogue then become a Paladin. Reason? Simple. Just because you are a 'Rogue' does not mean that it is stupid to promote order and good-will. A Rogue might 'see the light' if they were once rapscallions (I like that word... rapscallions. It rolls off the tongue so well). And think about this, both the Rogue and Paladin have Sense Motive as a class skill! CONNECTIONS PEOPLE! A person with a good dexterity, wisdom, and charisma can be just as a good as a rogue as they would be as a paladin. |
| Rulebook03-21-05, 01:46 PM | paladin/rogue combos are -wonderful- seriously. unless you think of them as paladins that are sneaky, instead of rogues with a true higher calling. |
| snowlynx03-21-05, 01:54 PM | Wouldn't it be flurry while raging? And yes, it should be possible. It would take quite the odd monk to go barbarian though....I suppose there's the exotic weapon master, who gets a flurry ability as well. Rogue/Paladin is best considered when you realize that a rogue is supposedly also a diplomat, dungeon expert, or well-prepared adventurer. As long as you're not thinking "thief" or "assassin", a rogue might easily become a paladin. I suppose it would make one disinclined to use certain class abilities like sneak attack, however, and a rogue seeking to become a paladin would be most likely to concentrate on non-sneaking skills (possibly taking diplomacy, sense motive, and other innocent skills instead of shadier skills like sleight of hand.) |
| Bane03-21-05, 02:10 PM | I made a Paladin/Rogue once. He was an expert at bringing criminals back alive, especially because he had the skills to approach a target surreptitiously, Sneak Attack him with a sap, hog tie him, then toss his unconscious body over the back of his paladin's mount for easy transport back to town. He didn't enjoy doing things that way, but he acknowledged the existence of criminals so foul that they couldn't be given a chance to flee. |
| Barloch03-21-05, 02:49 PM | Rogue is called "rogue" and not "thief" for a good reason. A rogue is just a generalized group of people who MIGHT use similar skills to get a job done but can be for totally diffrent purposes. Rogues also have NO alignment restrictions. And like I said theres even a PrC for it in the CV. Anyway I don't think it would have to be to radical for a monk to become a barbarian especially if he took up an adventurers life because he could simply loose conection with his previous beliefs in favor or raw combat. After all whats more satisfying to a barbarian then ripping your opponent with your bare hands? And I personally HATE the lawful only for monk, me and my friends use a house rule of any alignment with the reasoning that, you don't have to follow a strict code to achieve enlightenment and the things a monk works toward. And even if you think that they should be lawful whats to stop them from pursuing the path if they turn from the path of unswerving law? Not much I'd say as monks don't gain thier powers from divine beings or some secret cabal like druids or clerics. Its just a silly rule that really serves no purpose IMO at least. Although we have to change an ability or two like making ki strike lawful into ki strike chaotic. |
| Tuneless Bard03-21-05, 11:48 PM | The whole concept of the monk is based on order....not an actual group of people but order and control over your own body....in order to practice such tasks you must unstand the general order of the world...you must have respect for that order and be one with it...you must maintain control and never give in to chaos...its all about discipline....there is no way a monk can be non-lawful... |
| SgtHulka03-21-05, 11:56 PM | Paladin/Rogue = Batman |
| Tuneless Bard03-22-05, 06:41 PM | Batman is not lawful good...hes not a paladin...if anything he is a ranger / rogue |
| Nuntius12803-22-05, 06:54 PM | Batman is not lawful good...hes not a paladin...if anything he is a ranger / rogue Ohhhh, no. You aren't going to start another Batman alignment debate. That's too off subject. You need a new thread for that. |
