Can a Pixie be turned into a decent fighter @ 12th Level [Archive] - Wizards Community

I was hoping somebody might have ideas for classes/PrC's that can take advantage of a Pixie's assets (high Dex, Int, Wis, & Cha) along with good movement (60' fly) and greater invisibility always on versus the drawbacks (low Str, low damage from small sized weapons) in creating a dangerous fighter.

I had thought that the way to go was as an archer, but the only three archery PrCs I know of are Arcane Archer (prereq is elf/half-elf), Order of the Bow Initiate (Only to Level 7 with +5 BAB prereq; not impressive unless you want to remain within 30' of your opponents), and Soulbow (possibly the best of these options).

The pixie will have either 12 levels of arcane magic, divine magic, or psionics with which his/her fighting abilities can be enhanced.

I usually prefer magic classes, so I am ill-versed in fighter classes and PrC's. And I cannot use certain books like the ToB. I want to be able to deal out decent damage and would like to stay with light armor 9magic or psi effects can be used to boost AC).

As always, any help and/or ideas will be appreciated.

Um, what is so wrong with staying within 30 feet? Remember, that if you ever hit 10th level, it becomes 60 feet.
Anyway, your AC should be good, and you will be greater invis the whole time, so I don't see the distance as that big of a problem.

I hated to admit this, but it will be in a 15 ECL gestalt arena, so many others will be able to see invisibility and could be dangerous to get too close to.

Right now I am only remaining alive in the match I'm fighting by repeatedly attempting to grapple my opponent. One more item I want is something I real seeing which gives a circumstance bonus to grapple escape attempts (as a Sm sized char I'll have size penalties vs. grapples).

A pixie can make a dangerous foe in melee combat as a rouge. It's low damage is offset by sneak attack. I'd advise to focus on melee with a rouge so creatures that can see invisible creatures can still be flanked. Though you would be useless against undead you could dish out the pain to anything not immune to crits.
Another option is to make a pixie barbarian/frenzied berserker. It might seem like a bad idea but your low Str is completely negated and overcome by frenzy and rage in tandem. If you run out of angry time you become completely useless but if you take extend rage even this should be a non-issue. Also monkey grip can let a small creature weild a medium greataxe at a -2.

You could make her a binder from tome of magic. At 10th level (or 8th with a feat) you gain the ability to bind Otiax which gives you a melee touch attack that deals 2D6 damage straight up! It also does not use your str mod for damage so low str in no problem. It also gives you combat reflexes which combined with 10 foot reach with your airblast gives you nice coverage. You also gain pact augmentation and a second vestige with all its goodness.

Only problem is that your DM may argue that those numbers are inferred to be for medium sized creature though nothing says that in the entire book.

If you are looking to go melee then some of the above are good suggestions. If you are just looking to avoid being a non-caster then stick with bows. Everyone has skipped over one of your biggest assests. You can fly. Stay 15' in the air during combat. You can't be charged and you gain a +1 to attack for having the high ground.

The drawback to this is you aren't going to get cover being out in the open, but you really only have to worry about ranged weapons (so keep your ac up) and spells (so go rogue to get uncanny dodge and the like).

If you don't want to do bows another option would be going rogue and eventually into the PrC of Master Thrower. Then just chuck daggers.

Finesse rogue seems to work a treat.

I know these are good suggestions. But I was hoping to go with a class that would give d10's as HD, thus my reason for being interested in a fighter.

I'm considering for Level 12 gestalt:
Soulknive 5->Soulbow 7 with Favored Soul 10 (Weapon Prof. Great Sword, Deity's Favor Option) ->Contemplative 2 (bonus domain Strength). The limit on classes and PrCs is four total to prevent too much min-maxing.

I'm thinking that the divine caster levels will give me the abjurations I need to cover my butt in a match with at least one attack spell at each level.

But if there is a better option than this divine progression, please let me know what you think (and how its better than the favored soul-contemplative progression) so I can make an informed choice.

Thanks again for the input.

well I worked on a pixie(sorcerer or Bard)/monk/rogue with ascetic Mage... A character like this can easily get to the high 30's in AC. And against casters you can allways ready an action to attack a mage trying to cast a spell in order to interrupt him ;).

UA Fighter Alt with SA12/Scout12

That gives you your sneak attack dice, your d10 hd, decent skill points, and skirmish. Focus on getting spring attack and your enemies are hosed. You will have 6d6 SA damage along with 3d6 skirmish damage and +3 bonus AC.

an idea I've been playing with is going for a pixie summoner or druid. Just use silence spell and summon a bunch of critters to do the fighting for you, keeping yourself out of the fray.

you mentioned it would be in an arena. Do you know if there will be any possibilities to hide there? your +4 through small size and the racial bonusses on your stats might make you a fairly decent stealth caster.

good luck:)

Warlock 11 / Shadow Dancer 1 // Rogue 3 / Soulknife 8 / Pious Templar 1

Mettle and Evasion, you're always invisible and you always have concealment (from the miasmic cloud invocation) you can fly, you know 1 greater invocation (if you want to still be able to wreak grappling havoc, take Chilling Tentacles and just keep casting it every round until you have filled up the entire battlefield with multiple overlapping instances of it), and have DR 3/cold iron, have 2 energy resistances at 5, very good melee ability, 2d6 sneak attack, 6d6 EB damage, Hide in plain sight (take the darkness invocation), take the Entropic Shield invocation so guys cant shoot you very easily, and decently good saves. You can melee or shoot to your heart's content :D

I suggest getting a wand of flame blade. Invisibility + Touch Attacks FTW!

There can be places to hide depending upon whch arena setup my foe and I agree upon. Some arenas are pretty simple and others complex.

I do like this idea.

What are you doing?!?!?!
Pixie Fighter?!?!?

Okay look at the facts...

Pixie, 1 HD... bonus feats of Dodge and Weapon Finesse.
Now look at the only fighting PrC that's pure finesse... the Duelist
- D10 HD
- requires Dodge, Mobility and Weapon Finesse.
- requires BAB +6
- requires Perform{3} and Tumble{5}

So you need +6 BAB, 1 feat and 8 skill ranks.
Step 1: Rogue3 (2d6 sneak attack, ranks for skills, +2 BAB, Evasion)
Step 2: Ranger4 (+4 BAB, divine magic, a few extra feats, animal companion)
- Make sure one of your feats are Mobility.

THERE! Now you're a duellist. 12 levels? that leaves 5 Duellist levels.
+2 initiative, +5 dodge bonus to AC, +4 more to AC against AOOs, +2 Reflex saves, and +1d6 to damage.

Plus you can use Cure Wounds wands and some other divine items, have nice skill ranks to boost your Escape Artist (so Grapples aint so mean), a decent AC (wear bracers) and do +1d6 damage (and have 2d6 sneak attack). Maybe more, of facing your favored enemy.

Referring to archers, do not forget the DeepWood Sniper. You get a nice range outta that PrC. Lot of class boons, and long range sniping and sneak attacks at 60' if I recall correctly.
