Can a ranger choose shapechangers as a favored enemy? [Archive] - Wizards Community

09-21-05, 11:36 PM Or is it too broad? Maybe humanoid shapechangers, or lycanthropes, or something like that? I'm designing a ranger/paladin of Nobanion, and he has kind of a grudge match with Malar and his followers, who are mostly lycanthropes, so I would like to choose shapechangers if I can.

But you can have Outsider (Earth) as favored enemy or Humanoid (Aquatic), which clearly are subtypes, so this argument won´t do it.

If you check MM page 5, you´ll see that there are at least as many ´monsters´ of the aquatic humanoid subtype as there are shapechangers. I see no problems whatsoever.

A druid is a class, not a racial type or subtype, so the answer would be NO unless you are talking about a Werewolf Druid :)

AFAIK that means you could choose Humanoid(Shapechangers), but not Monstrous Humanoid(Shapechangers) in v3.5

In 3rd Edition Shapechangers represented a whole type. Which made them eligible for a favoured enemy.

That makes sense since monsterous humanoids has no subtype.
Which begs the quetion, does a template grant a subtype?
