Can a warlock get their powers from night hag blood? [Archive] - Wizards Community

04-20-07, 09:38 PM I was planning to make a tiefling warlock. I know you can become a tiefling with night hag blood, but what about warlock powers? Do they only come from demonic or fey sources? If it can generate from a hag, how would a person obtain them?

04-20-07, 09:49 PM Its flavor text and has no barring on mechanics, so its something you have to ask your DM because he may have opinions on this. However just from mechanics, having a demon, devil, or fey give you your powers is not needed for a Warlock, indeed having anything give you your powers is not needed to be a Warlock. Its more of a suggestion, like the suggestion of Sorcerors having draconic blood. You can easily make a sorceror who doesn't have any draconic blood in them, you can easily make a warlock with no connections to demons or fey.

Personally, if I was your DM, I'd allow you to get your powers from a Night hag. Or anything for that matter.

All humans have the ability to control these powers, you've just spent time practicing unleashing them. Your power is the power manipulated by wizards and by sorcerors, but in its most raw form.

If you're in Eberron, you could've been born in a manifest zone connected to the Relm of Madness. If not in Eberron, maybe your mother was a wizard and thus was currently on another plane when you were born, causing some of the plane's arcane essence to seep into your body at birth.

An old drifter you met on the street promised you immense power, and with a touch he unlocked your arcane magic.

There's lots of possible reasons you can have strange arcane powers. Heck, look to comic books and find some good stories for how they got their powers. Something like the X Gene maybe, a regular biological thing, but which is very rare.
