Angrymartian 05-16-05, 07:33 AM	Hi guys, I have a rogue/wizard who has asked if he can use the Use Magic Device skill to create clerical magic items, including golems available only to that class. Is this allowable and if not where is the rule to clarify this with my player? many thanks :) AM
Count Arioch the 28th 05-16-05, 08:09 AM	If he had a source to cast the spell from (For example, a scroll or whatnot) then he certainly can. Look in the item creation chapter, it says you can use spells from sources other than your own resevoir of spells. However, you can't UMD to just pull a spell not on your class list out of your bum, you need a scrool, staff, or wand to cast it. Note that Eberron Artificiers and Complete Arcane Warlocks CAN actually use the skill to pull out spells they can't actually cast from nowhere when crafting magic items.

No, not unless he has a class ability that says otherwise (two classes that do this are Artificer, from Eberron ... and Warlock, from Complete Arcane). As noted, though, if he has a Scroll, Wand, Staff, or other spell-trigger / spell-completion item with divinespells, and wishes to make amagic item using them ... then yes, a UMD roll that allows the use of those items should probably be allowed to work in the way he suggests - because that skill roll will allow them to use the item9s) in question to produce the divine spell(s) needed. Note that this should consume those items - it's probably pointless to use a Scroll of Cure Light Wounds ... to make a Scroll of Cure Light Wounds. :D
