Can druids share "Cure" spells with their animal companions? [Archive] - Wizards Community

With the Share Spells ability, can a druid cast Cure Light Wounds on herself and have it affect her animal companion as well? If so, that rocks, and it seems to me it does work that way. Any vetoes?

On a different note, do most druids have their companions attack on their initiative roll, or roll a seperate one?

I don't see why cure spells wouldn't affect the animal companion also, it specifically states that instantaneous duration spells can be used. I actually hadn't thought of that before...

As far as initiative goes, the druid player in my game has her animal companion act on the same initiative as her, using her initiative. This is mainly because we are lazy, and this simplifies things and keeps battle moving. I could also see maybe deciding who's init mod to use, and having them both act on that, but my player doesn't sweat the details too much.

Yes you can cast cure spells and have them work through the share spells ability.

In the campaign I am playing in my Druid and his wolf act on their own initiatives.

Well, I believe the Sage once said that you don't get any more total hitpoints healed out of the deal, but I don't recall where he said this (e.g. the total healing between you and your companion equals the total healing of the spell).

Healing is much, much more powerful if you can double its effectiveness like that.

Yes, there is nothing preventing the sharing of healing spells between a druid and his companion, or with a familiar for that matter. I don't bother with the Sage's "clarification" about dividing the spell effects between them. I have any shared spells affect both parties equally. (i.e. both are healed for the full amount, both get the full amount of Mirror Images, etc).

I have a blackguard NPC in a game with a fiendish mount and an imp familiar. He can cast Heal and has alot of buffs that he shares with them both. They should make for a nasty team...

Just remember those buffs drop if they move more then 5 ft away.

Never thought of the healing before, i'll have to mention that to my druid (his panther gets into a lot of combat).

Our druid has her companion act on the same initiative. it's just easier that way. Same with familiars, summoned creatures and controlled undead (when relevent).

My companion haves his own initiative, summons are on my, maybe i should suggest about taking companion to my iniative cause its part of my abilities and fewer iniatives makes it easier.

Does anyone have a link to the sage's ruling on this? Though I agree that the book makes it seem it would work, I think I should go with the sage as an official ruling, even if I dont like it. :weep:

I don't know if it's been written up in a 3.5 source.

Indeed its in the 3.0 Tome and Blood, I cannot find a 3.5 reference. I just luckily stumbled across this e-mail note for our old 3.0 campaign (those books are long packed away).

"Yup, check out familiars in the Tome and Blood book, it properly explains what one can do with share spells and other familiar abilities. Cure spells are not amongst them explicitly, but excess healing spills over to one or the other."

Was anything mentioned in CA or CD? Will check later and see if noone replys earlier.
