korric 04-29-07, 10:05 AM	I have a Paladin who took up a level in the prestige class - Anointed Knight - from the Book of Exalted Deeds. and my plan was to switch between Paladan and Anointed Knight every second level, thus raising them simultanously. My question is, Can I still gain levels as a Paladin, even though I took up the prestige class of the Anointed knight? or does prestige classes work the same way as normal classes, where a Paladin cannot gain any new levels in Paladin, once a new class has been taken. thanks
Garonak 04-29-07, 10:29 AM	No, you cannot take more lvls in Paladin, there are some prestige classes (like shadowbane Inquisitor in Complete Adventurer) that allows it, but in those cases there is a paragraph at the end of the class features (usually called Multiclass note) that says so specifically.
Treantmonklvl20 04-29-07, 10:32 AM	You probably should have talked to your DM, or posted the question here BEFORE you took the PrC level... Some PrC's allow return to Paladin class levels, but they always say so specifically in the text.

kyros_the_spawnslayer 04-30-07, 03:08 PM	I would definaly go with the Knight Training feat, though that will be up to your DM wheter to allow you character to "learn" how to balance the two classes.
The_Shaman 04-30-07, 04:23 PM	I think you're better off filling the levels with another PrC, really (since you probably have a few paladin levels before you met the Anointed prerequisite. You could use a makeshift feat that allows you to multiclass, but I'm not sure if it's worth it. That, and it makes little sense that pursuing an exalted PrC would break your paladin progression. :confused:

Something that "makes sense" to one person may sound rediculous to another. That's why most people like to go by RAW. It doesn't make sense to everybody, but it's a common ground for everybody. If not, then what's the point of a paladin taking any PrC? To...get the benefits of the prestige class. Why else?

Read the flavor text again. Anointed Knights have absolutely no connection to Paladins whatsoever. They're [any] holy warriors tied to a specific ancestral weapon which they improve with holy alchemical oil anointments, as well as bathing themselves in magic oils. That's it. So no, there isn't a clear reason for a character to be able to multiclass between the two.
