Speak of the devil! Here, try my new Brawler (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=352600) and Martial Artist (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=352598)!

Sohei from the Oriental Adventures is quite nice. They are more martial concentraited then Monks and while they are still lawful only they do not concentrait on the spiritual as much as normal monks.

If you just want an unarmed fighter, go for a Fighter/Barbarian. Just to compare the damage possible, without considering Strength;

Monk; 2d10 damage.

Fighter 10/Barbarian 10 with IUS, Improved Grapple, WF: Unarmed Strike, WS: Unarmed Strike, GWF and GWS in same;
1d3+4, and +2 from Rage.

Sure, that looks lower, but consider averages; 11 for the monk, 7.5 for the Fighter/Barb. And now, consider the effect of Power Attack, because you've got a 5-point higher BAB. Average; 12.5. Better unarmed damage than a monk, at the same attack bonus.

And I haven't even stepped outside the PHB; there's some dandy feats for unarmed fighting in other books.

There is a variant from a Dragon magazine, that replaces a monks Flurry, Greater Flurry, Still Mind, and Quivering Palm for the Rage ability, getting it at first level, then another one at 4th and every four levels thereafter. Also, the monk gets Greater Rage and Mighty Rage at the 11th and 20th level, respectively. If that helps, that is.

you no if you want to make it more savage twist it around wear the monk does not have to be lawful or have him worship loki or somthing like that

or you could just go and make him have animle blood in him and give him claws

or you could decide that the monk class just does not fit in your viking campaing and not use it.

Really, thats quite OK to limit options. It often makes for a better game too.
