| Hubert de Balderoc02-18-06, 02:05 PM | OK the whole "polymorph anouncement" totally changes Wild Shape... but that may not be a bad idea. So if I get it right: - no more animal growth-like spells - no more special qualities (lowlightvision, scent...) - no more additional hp for increased Constitution - and so on One of my player is playing a very standard multiclass druid that usually wildshapes into a standard brown bear. The "polymorph anouncement" totally changed its stats and abilities under wildshape. And raises a bunch of questions. First concerning equipment, we understand that: "Any gear worn or carried by the druid melds into the new form and becomes nonfunctional" means ANY! Even if the animal form could use it. It means he now must remove the equipment (let's say a belt) first before wildshaping if he does not want it to meld. OK if he wildshapes in a monkey, he can still grab the belt and put it back. If he wildshapes in a tiger, someone can grab the belt (not him... paws...) and put it back cause it should fit. BUT if he wildshape in a bears, no belt : the belt is not changing size. Are we right? So pretty much he can forget about equipment under wild shape now. Now few things puzzle us: Let's say he is a 14HD character with 8 levels of Druid He can wild shape in a Large animal. he can wild shape in a standard brown bear (MM P269). And he is still 14HD. But Brown bears are limited to 10HD. A) What levels does he have in skills (listen, spot...)? Does he get bear's bonus and loses his previous racial bonus? Does he keep his ranks? Does he get additional skill points as per Table 4-1 (PHB page 290) because he is a 14HD bear? Are they limited to a 10HD bear? blablabla B) Same : what feats does he have? Does he keep his previous feats from his levels (one every 3HD)? Does he keep his bonus feats from his race? From his classes? Does he get the standard 6HD bear feats (Endurance, Run, Track)? Does he get additional feats as per Table 4-1 (PHB page 290) because he is a 14HD bear? Are they limited to a 10HD bear? blablabla C) The errata says "The creature retains any spellcasting ability it had in its original form, although...". OK but what happen to my different other classes features? Supernatural abilities? Extraordinary abilities? Sperll-like abilities? Others? It seems from "The creature loses the natural weapons, natural armor, and movement modes of its original form, as well as any extraordinary special attacks of its original form not derived from class levels (such as the barbarian’s rage class feature)." that the idea of the "design & development" team was that he would keep ALL class features except when changes are specifically mentionned (like spellcasting). But this interpretation is not certain. CAN THE SAGE BE CLEAR ON THAT please? Your DM, sincerely... |
