| WaffleCop03-21-08, 01:04 PM | I'm using a warrior from the DMG as a guard/soldier. Can someone suggest some good starting ability scores? |
| Daehan03-21-08, 02:01 PM | Just off the top of my head, here are some good starting ability scores... Str: 18 Dex: 18 Con: 18 Int: 18 Wis: 18 Cha: 18 Seriously though, you'll probably want to say what race you are and what point buy you will be using. :-P |
| WaffleCop03-21-08, 02:08 PM | Oh right sorry :D Human guard/soldier for a hamlet |
| M-bark03-21-08, 02:08 PM | Better than what's suggested in the second post, have all the guards in whatever city you're in be Pun-Puns. ...or you could just go with the elite array and list as follows: Str: 15 Dex: 13 Con: 14 Int: 11 Wis: 12 Cha: 8 |
| 1 ton ghost03-21-08, 02:31 PM | there's essentially an index in Heroes of Battle that stipulates a very lnog arrary of stats for humans, elves, goblinoid, drow, orc, undead armies. fairly simplified and very believeable. good book overall. |
| WaffleCop03-21-08, 02:34 PM | ^Sorry I don't buy the splatbooks :( |
| Staple03-21-08, 02:34 PM | I'd assume he's not too high level, since you're using Warrior and therefore shouldn't be too tough in combat. I'd go with: STR 16 DEX 12 CON 16 INT 10 WIS 10 CHA 8 Then throw him in either chainmail or full plate. |
| WaffleCop03-21-08, 04:39 PM | Can anyone suggest something a little weaker than the elite array M-Bark posted? Because I intend to use two guards to help assist my two players in defending the hamlet they live in against bandits |
| JaronK03-21-08, 06:59 PM | Well, they're just Warriors after all. The last time I used a pair of gaurds to help my party, They were like this: Ox: Human Warrior 8 Str 15, Con 12, Dex 11 Wis 10, Chr 9, Int 8 Feats: Power Attack, Improved Shield Bash, Shieldmate, Phallanx Fighting He wasn't too bright, but used a large heavy shield and shortsword to good effect. Wore Brigadine Mail. Murph: Human Expert 8 Dex 15, Con 12, Str 11, Int 10, Wis 9, Chr 8 Feats: Point Blank Shot, Rapid Shot, Far Shot, Rapid Reload Your basic Crossbowman with Light Crossbow, Brigadine Mail, and Shortsword. He was the one with Spot and Listen and such so he could actually spot things! JaronK |
| WaffleCop03-21-08, 07:52 PM | Okay how does this look: lvl 1 Human Warrior Str-13 Dex-11 Con-12 Wis-10 Chr-9 Int-8 Weapon-Longsword Armor-Chamail+Light wood shield I'm using these stats for my four soldiers in my hamlet (the fifth guy, a captain is going to be stronger). Do you guys think these are good stats? Edit:Can anyone suggest some feats as well? |
| ciaran03-22-08, 12:57 AM | I'd use the low-power 15 point buy. That would make a 17 str and 8 in everything else :D or spread it around and get something realistic. These are town guards, not adventurers. They are doing their job and want to go home to their family at the end of the day. I'd say their feats would have more to do with defense and survival rather than killing. |
| runestar03-22-08, 01:14 AM | You might want to consider making them expert1/warrior1 for extra skills. I have always been irritated that fighters and warriors do not get spot and listen as class skills...:( For feats, I would say that alertness and weapon focus are okay. |
| M-bark03-22-08, 12:22 PM | As long as Str and Con are prioritized, then Dex, then Wis and Int, and Cha totally dumped, you'd be good. Starting with a level in Expert, as suggested above, would be a nice thing to do, and then add a level of Warrior on top of it. You totally need Spot and Listen. |

Can someone explain to me how multi-classing works? I have the rulebooks, but I don't understand how it works |

| M-bark03-22-08, 06:46 PM | http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/classes.html Multiclass characters often take XP penalties, but for NPCs, you don't need to worry about that. |
