| boatmanj03-09-07, 01:15 PM | I wasn't sure the answer to this.. I read in the srd that "There is no such thing as an off-hand attack for a monk striking unarmed" so it didn't make sense that a monk can strike with his off hand if there's not such thing for a monk when unarmed. |
| Frozen Yakman03-09-07, 01:26 PM | No. |
| Urithair03-09-07, 01:38 PM | According to errata, YES |
| moriarty1303-09-07, 01:38 PM | Sure you can. From the FAQ: Can a monk fight with two weapons? Can she combine a two-weapon attack with a flurry of blows? What are her penalties on attack rolls? A monk can fight with two weapons just like any other character, but she must accept the normal penalties on her attack rolls to do so. She can use an unarmed strike as an offhand weapon. She can even combine two-weapon fighting with a flurry of blows to gain an extra attack with her off hand (but remember that she can use only unarmed strikes or special monk weapons as part of the flurry). Note that there is far more detailed information in the FAQ, I just snipped out a short excerpt. |
| boatmanj03-09-07, 01:47 PM | okay thanks for the assist. My bad for not checking the FAQ first, I'm at work so it wasn't available to me.. thanks again though. I'll read through it fully when i get home. |
| Hideous Phidias03-09-07, 06:32 PM | I have use a few feats for one of my monk to get around the monk weapon problem. I use Weapon focus, weapon finesse Graceful edge and Whirling Steel Strike Weapon finesse is use your dex in stead of str on attack rolls with light weapon. Gaceful edge is fighting with the chosen weapon in your primary hand and no weapon or shield in your off-hand, receive the following benefits: a) treat the chosen weapon as ‘Light’ (i.e., Weapon Finesse applies to it); b) receive a +1 Shield bonus to AC; and c) if Fighting Defensively or using Total Defense, receive a +2 Shield bonus to AC. Whirling Steel Strike is the feat that alllows you to add the longsword to the list of monk weapons. These four feat combined with a small collecting of swords allows monks to be feared fighter in any combat. I suggest you start a coolecting of swords to get around damage reductions of upper level creatures. Also puttiing holy and element effects on them would be a good idea too. The one thing I liked using was a weapon of graceful strikes. I also suggest going human or elf for this type of character. With the human you get extra feat you will need, but may want to work in a level of two of fighter or use the martial monk variant. With elf you get a longswords for free so that helps there and the dex bonus is nice too. I would go wild of wood elf. You may alsowant to look throught the monk weapons schools variants, Kali, Arnis, Escrima gives you longswords as a weapon you can use. This combined with whirling wind strike and weapon focus will give you the basic ability to furry of blows with the longsword. |
