| Matafleous11-26-05, 04:21 PM | I am almost positive that you heard wrong. I dont believe that there is any limit at all to how many classes and PrCs you can take. |
| TheScapegoat11-26-05, 04:26 PM | Yeah maybe, it seemed like a good rule but i was just reading through my Incarnum book and came upon this line of text in the Incarnum Blade PrC section: This is reference to the Incarnum Blade only being a 5 level prestige class. "... while not ventring too far from a more career-defining base or prestige class." Which to me would at least mean you can have multiple PrCs even if you could only have 3 total classes. |

No except for multi-classing XP penalties and meeting the prerequistes for prestige calsses. These impose a practial limit even if there is not a theoretical one. |
| XrP-Leon The Second11-26-05, 04:31 PM | No, that is not an official rule. You may have as many classes as you want, but my be limited to multiclassing restrictions (check the player's handbook). You may have as many PrCs as you wish, and these do not count against you with regards to multiclassing. Anyone can be a level 1 barbarian/bard1/cleric1/wizard1/sorc1/ranger1/rogue1/swashbuckler1/druid1/paladin1/monk1/warlock1/wilder1 and then have levels in prestige classes as well. Assuming you can meet the prerequisits. |
| Rhomphaia11-26-05, 09:43 PM | The only place I can think of with this rule is the Neverwinter Nights video game. Anyway, You are only limited in class selection by any limits your DM may impose and only limited to taking multiple PrCs by having to first meet the prerequisites and the aforementioned DM set limits. |
| runestar11-26-05, 11:04 PM | There is no limit on how many prcs you can take, assuming you meet all the prerequisites, and you do not get a multiclassing xp for taking prcs. I do know of a max 3 class limit in NWN. Although some dms are known to impose ad-hoc rules like having to finish taking one prc before taking another, to prevent abusive one-dips. This was addressed in 3.0, though said ruling is missing in 3.5. Since no official word in 3.5 yet exists, we will use the 3.0 ruling, since nothing supercedes that. Yet. |
| farfairer11-28-05, 05:51 AM | The offical rules definately allow you to take more than 3 classes. In fact the PRC: Fochlucan Lyrist (Complete Adventurer, page 47) requires you to take levels in at least 3 classes simply to qualify for the class. The requirements for Fochlucan Lyrist include: Skills: Decifer Script 7 ranks, Diplomacy 7 ranks, Gather Information 7 ranks, Knowledge (Nature) 7 ranks, Perform (String Instument) 13 ranks, Sleight of Hand 7 ranks, Speak Language (Druidic). Alignment: Neutral Good, Neutral, Chaotic Neutral, or Neutral Evil. Spells: Ability to cast 1st level arcane and divine spells. Special: Bardic Knowledge and evasion abilities. Only Druids get Speak Language (Druidic) Only Bards get Bardic Knowledge Several classes get evasion, but niether druid or bard are among them. (Rouge being the easiest one to get.) |
