Caster focus Cleric? [Archive] - Wizards Community

A cleric is a balanced fighter/divine caster. But, what if I want to become a more powerful caster while sacrificing my melee abilities? I looked over the Cloistered Cleric, but that's more of a Bardic Knowledge varient. I'd like to see something more like a "Red Wizard of Thay" divine caster (Good aligned, pls).

The build I'm creating (for fun, I don't have a game for him yet) already includes levels in Combat Medic and Hierophant (only one or two for divine reach before going epic, so I can get 3 or 4 Epic metamagic feats each level)

Any thoughts?

11-28-05, 07:55 PM If you want to play a stronger spellcasting cleric, why don´t you take the druid or the spirit-shaman? Their spells a bit better for combat.
But ther are also some good prestige classes in the complete divine: Church inquisitor, contemplative, radiant servant of Pelor.

And Jax class archivist is quite nice, too

Doesn't seem to be anything about for magically potent clerics. Oh well.

Not much is going to be more powerful than a cleric in terms of raw spellcasting ability -- they are full casters with 9 levels of spells. At medium levels the druid list is slightly better. The arcane list is always better but that is another story.

Depending on how it is read (and if you are beginning at very high levels) a Warmage/Rainbow servant is actually quite good. Usually, however, DMs will either take the spellcasting advancement from the table (despite the errata) or disallow automatic access to cleric spells for the warmage (amazing rules laywering goes on with both sides of this debate). I've seen one or the other in a DM but rarely neither or both.

Otherwise a prestige class could help. Contemplative isn't a bad way to go -- more domains coupled with a Domain Spontaneity feat could be a great way ti improve casting potential.

Or perhaps if flexibility is what you want a dual progressionc caster class (mystic theruge, psionic version of this or similar might be an idea).

12-01-05, 12:41 AM Good spellcasting clerics have been a favourite of mine for a while. I generally take sun, magic, war or animal domains and if the dm allows it destruction.

A good start would be the Book of Exaulted deeds and Complete Divine source books for presteige classes and new feats and divine spells.

One thing which most people overlook a pure cleric can be more potent than someone taking a presteige/multi class.
