Dagoroth 06-09-05, 03:33 PM	I have a level 18 (8 fighter, 10 cavalier) and I am trying to figure out how much damage he would do on a critical hit(x3 damage) while making an unstoppable charge(x5 damage) and power attacking for 5 with a lance. His regular damage is 1d8+13 I keep comming up with the same numbers but they can't be correct my calculations are 1d8+13+power attack for 5 (2 handed is 10) x 5 (deadlycharge) = 115 x 3 (critical hit) = and grand total of 575 points of damage. PLEASE SHOW ME I AM WRONG OR MY PCs WILL DIE his feats and abilities are as follows: weapon specialization lance unstoppable charge power attack 22 strength (+6)

DarknessEternal 06-09-05, 04:34 PM	115 * 3 = 445 That's one mistake among many. The correct formula for your damage would be 3d8 * 5 + 345 345 is 5 * your listed damage bonus plus power attack number times the three times it'd count for the critical. eg. 5 * 3 * (10 + 13). This leaves the total range at 360-465. This is a rare exception in D&D where multipliers actually stack multiplicitively, because that's how criticals work. Nothing survives being charged by a Cavalier.

PlutoniumKnight 06-10-05, 01:25 AM	It could get even sicker, use a valourous lance (+1 enchantment) It grants double damage on charges, and things of lions charge to make a full attack. Ahh, let the taurasque hide his head.
Maraxus 06-10-05, 01:41 AM	Your mistake (I see right away) is, that in D&D you don't multiply this way. If you have to multiply soething *5 and then *3, you don't multiply it *15, only *(5+3-1=)7, so it would be only 161. Maybe there is something else wrong, too, can't look into the material now but this is the most obvious mistake.
Dyne 06-10-05, 02:22 AM	Regular Damage: 1d8+23 (+9 Str (two-handed), +2 lance, +2 weapon specialization, +10 Power Attack (two-handed)) Bonus Unstoppable Charge Damage: 4d8+92 Bonus Critical Damage: 2d8+46 Total: 7d8+161 (168-217 pts. of damage) I don't believe a critical hit multiplies the multiple from Unstoppable Charge. However, if he wielded the lance one-handed, it would be: Regular Damage: 1d8+18 Bonus Unstoppable Charge Damage: 4d8+72 Bonus Critical Damage: 2d8+36 Total: 7d8+126 (133-182 pts. of damage)
