| Vulcanus02-23-08, 10:08 PM | Made a character for my friend's campaign in about 20 minutes. It was level 3, and by the end of the night he leveled to 4. I feel that next week I'll level again, and I was wondering if I should go into another class. Just thinking out of the core books(no restrictions though), Barbarian looks very nice. Using a B. Sword and Large shield, pretty much the group needed a tankish char... because the other barbarian couldn't make it and I've had plenty of experience playing. Nothing out of Tome of Battle, sorry guys. Ideas? |
| pigknight02-23-08, 10:38 PM | If LG I recommend paladin till level 5 at most, if NG/CG then get as many barbarian levels as you feel like. |
| Vulcanus02-23-08, 11:00 PM | Yeah, CG... would varient Paladin be alright? OR should I go with Barbarian at level 5? |
| tenguroEd02-23-08, 11:51 PM | a tank eh, hm if possible picking up Psy warrior would be a great benefit to a tanker, playing one right now and have fun every session with him. |
| Vulcanus02-24-08, 12:36 PM | The DM has a problem with Psionics. Basically he hates them, and I like the DM, so no use. I could maybe convince him to let me slip it in, but if I use psionics in public people may be like "Gah!" So yeah. So I'll probably start dipping into Barbarian... how many levels should I take? |
| ciaran02-24-08, 01:17 PM | Two levels will gain you Rage, Fast Movement and Uncanny Dodge. Investing in five levels is a tougher choice, but it will gain you an extra Rage per day and Improved Uncanny Dodge. |
| Vulcanus02-24-08, 01:25 PM | I'll probably go for two levels and see how I like it with the fighter level;s before it. |
| AtsuiShoto02-24-08, 05:13 PM | When dipping barbarian, I usually just go for 1 level, then add Extra Rage. While uncanny dodge is nice, I find I usually have too many other classes clamoring for levels. Ranger 2(or 4) or Paladin 4 are both interesting, Cleric 1 can be good for the domain abilities, Marshal 1 can be good for a very specific aura, and shapeshifting Druid 1 can be great for War Shaper later. That last suggestion has more appeal for someone not relying heavily on equipment, though. |
| Vulcanus02-24-08, 05:41 PM | Fighter 4/ Barbarian 1/ Cleric 1 would be nice for the Domain abilities, why Ranger? |
| Sakaki2202-24-08, 08:32 PM | Here's what two levels in each PHB class will gain you: Barbarian - A speed bonus, an HP bonus, Rage, and Uncanny Dodge. Bard - A reflex bonus, a will bonus, some nice information gathering, and a few buffs (for yourself and others), but a hit to HP. Cleric - A handful of good spells for any purpose, and Turn Undead. Druid - Probably not a good choice. Monk - Probably not a good choice. Paladin - If you have a good Charisma score, here's some minor healing, Smite Evil, Detect Evil, and a boost to EVERY save. If you don't have a good Charisma, probably not worth it. Ranger - Nice skills, a Reflex bonus, the feats Track and (probably) Rapid Shot, and one Favored Enemy.. Rogue - Sneak Attack, amazing skills, a Reflex bonus, Trapfinding, and Evasion, but a hit to HP Sorcerer - A familiar, a good Will bonus, and a few spells, which can be invested into nice buffs, but a big hit to HP Wizard - As Sorcerer, but can cast less and know more. Choose to the flavor you want. |
| Mad_Jack02-25-08, 03:11 PM | Which feats have you got so far? If you've invested heavily in your weapon skills, you might go 2 levels of ranger to get TWF with sword and shield-bash and some decent skill points... |
| Vulcanus02-25-08, 03:49 PM | I'm thinking that for flavor and power reasons, Cleric would be much better for me to take. |
