I want to build a centaur fighter that specialises in jousting. Naturally "Cavalier" is very appealing to this character. The only problem is, how do I handle the prerequites? The ranks in the "ride" skill for example are pretty redundant in this case as there is no possible way this character would ever be unseated. Not only that. for this character its not really "riding" so much as "walking"......

Should I raise the base attack required, or just ignore the prerequisites that wouldnt apply to a centaur.

Any thoughts?

I'd say ignore the Handle Animal and Ride Ranks, as well as Mounted Combat and Ride by Attack, he's been walking like this his whole life...

I would leave the prerequisites as is . . . Ride could be used when someone is on the centaur's back and Handle Animal could be used with other animals.

I think the idea that a centaur with ranks in the ride skill is out to lunch. This is a character that will never ever ride another living thing. As for when someone else rides him..........Let me just say this. A centaur is never ridden. He may CARRY someone for a short period by choice, or out of necessity (another party member is unconscious), but is never ridden.

The he reason that the PRC has Handle Animal as a prerequisite is so the conventional PC races can handle their MOUNTS. Again, a centaur will never ride another living creature. Additionaly, this character will be a fighter, not a ranger making handle animal even less useful.

Thats true, HE is never ridden, but it isn't true that he doesn't ever ride. SHE never rides but is ridden. Catch my drift? :ayyyy!:
