CHA to saves? [Archive] - Wizards Community

10-21-05, 01:56 PM I play a very charismatic bard, but finding his saves are lacking in comparison to other characters in the group. He has focused primarily on raising CHA through his progression and was wondering if there are any PrCs or base classes besides paladins that allow a character to add their charisma bonus to saves?

BTW, He is CN and focuses on enchanting and manipulating people. He is a Bard/Mindbender atm.

10-21-05, 02:21 PM No classes come immediately to mind, but that's probably my faulty memory's fault. However, there is the Force of Personality feat from Complete Adventurer that allows you to to use your Cha insted of Wis for will saves.

10-21-05, 02:33 PM Warlocks have an invocation that allows one to do that. Dark One's own Luck. As a standard action one can switch the bonus to a different save. Only one boost allowed at a time, but the boost lasts for 24 hours or until switched to another. If one takes enough levels to recieve two least invocations then one may also be spent on Beguiling Influence. This gives a +6 bonus to Diplomacy, Bluff, and Intimidate. A useful invocation for any charismatic character. Just an idea.

If the character is human then no XP penalties will occur. Warlocks are any Chaotic, so the character would be possible.

The brief description of FoP in Comp Adv (the one on the Feats table) says it is to Will saves, but the actual write-up of the feat says only applied to mind affecting-will spells and SLAs.

In Oriental Adventures, the Shaman base class gains Spirits' Favor (adds Charisma bonus to all saving throws) at 5th level.

4th level, Holy Liberator. Chaotic good alignment: the chaotic paladin. By 4th level, you'll be immune to charms and enchantments, be able to detect evil at will, and be able to remove fatigue with a touch. It's not too unreasonable for a bard. From Complete Divine, by the way.

You'll probably have all requirements except Iron Will, which I suspect isn't a feat you'll complain much about getting.

10-21-05, 03:24 PM Deities & Demigods has a PrC called Soldier of Light for NG characters that grants you Divine Grace.

Also, the very controversial BoEF has an armor enhancement that gives +2 Charisma, and your Cha mod on Will saves for +1, though I forget the name. Like I'm really gonna go back to the bookstore and look. :rolleyes:

10-21-05, 03:58 PM Thanks for the great suggestions. Paladins and good classes in general seem to be out as he likes to dominate/charm/control peoples minds (doesnt seem to goodly). Hexblade seems best so far as he also likes to use bestow curse.

BoEF = BoED?
