| HatTrick08-16-06, 09:08 AM | I really like the sound of this class (from the Races of Destiny book) and I'd like to play it in my next campaign, but considering the nature of its abilities, the pages describing it are supprisingly devoid of rules and examples. As an example (and this is only one example of many questions I have) I'm not entirely clear on how the class gets it spells for when it is emulating a wizard or cleric. As a cleric, does it simply know all cleric spells? As a wizard, can it only cast spells known to its own personal spellbook? This last seems to be what is indicated, but in the class description it is stated that players who start as spellcasters then come to this class have an advantage as they have more spells that they can draw from. Does this then imply that a sorcerer/chameleon knows all the sorcerer spells? I also assume that the abilities for Chameleon and other classes that the character might have do not stack. For example, a Rogue/Chameleon gets either rogue, or Chameleon sneak attack, whichever is better, but does not combine the two. Likewise, rage for a Barbarian/Chameleon does not stack, spells for caster/Chameleons, etc. Is there errata on this, purhaps a thread that spells it all out? Thanks. I checked through the first few pages here, but without a forum search I can't see if this has been asked 8000 times. |

Arcane Focus: You gain the ability to prepare and cast arcane spells, which may be chosen from the spell list of any arcane spellcasting class. You prepare and cast these spells just as a wizard does, including the use of a spellbook (chameleons often use stolen or borrowed spellbooks; see page 178 of the Player's Handbook for details). Your spells per day are noted on Table 5-2: The Chameleon. You gain bonus spells for a high Intelligence score, just as a wizard does. When Table 5-2 indicates that you get 0 spells per day of a given spell level, you gain only the bonus spells you would be entitled to based on your Intelligence score for that spell level. Your caster level is equal to twice your class level. Divine Focus: You gain the ability to prepare and cast divine spells, which may be chosen from the spell list of any divine spellcasting class. You prepare and cast these spells just as a cleric does, except that you cannot spontaneously cast spells. You can only prepare new divine spells at sunrise. Your spells per day are noted on Table 5-2: The Chameleon. You gain bonus spells for a high Wisdom score, just as a cleric does. When Table 5-2 indicates that you get 0 spells per day of a given spell level, you gain only the bonus spells you would be entitled to based on your Wisdom score for that spell level. Your caster level is equal to twice your class level. You may prepare Wizard spells, if you have borrowed or written a spellbook, just as a Wizard. These spell slots are distinct from your previous spell casting abilities, similar to a multiclass character, so you can't prepare sorcerer spells in your chameleon slots unless you have written them in as per a wizard. I think, but do not know, that you have full access to the Cleric's general (no domains) spell list. I think that all of your special abilites are kept seperate. If you previously had Rage, you get more uses. They can't stack within one use, and can't be used back to back, but you don't lose out. Sneak attack always stacks with itself, and Sudden Strike or Skirmish if the requirments are met. This has been my understanding, and it could be wrong. |
