| Grand104-13-05, 10:15 PM | *Warning* possible broken material ahead, or total embarassment :D/ :weep: 1) Can Chameleon take Mystic Thurge or Dwomerkeeper? 1a) If yes, can Mystic Thurge's +1 divine/arcane caster level both pick Chameleon 1ai) if yes, what will Chameleon Spells per day from levels 11 to 20 look like? 2) Does a Chameleon's spell per day have to be shared between divine & arcane spells, if it uses double aptitude for arcane & divine focus? any other good Chameleon suggestions? |
| Lexarius04-13-05, 10:21 PM | 1) I'll hesitantly say yes, but I'll probably regret it. 1a) Sure, but you'd have to use the double aptitude thingy to use both at once. 1ai) Like any other spellcasting class, you get no more spells. Ever. Unless you take the epic feat that gives you additional higher level slots. Also note that a chameleon's caster level is twice his level. If I were going to allow this build, I would say that you only get +1 caster level from each MT level, not +2. 2) I believe so. |
| Richmud04-13-05, 10:40 PM | A chameleon cannot use any of his temporary abilities to qualify for prestige classes or feats. As for good suggestions for a chameleon I like the changeling race, nothing like a false face to go with your false class |
| aelryinth04-13-05, 10:44 PM | As written, I'm not sure the class ability to duplicate spellcasting actually qualifies as the minimum spellcaster levels for a Spellcaster Prestige Class! Certainly the bonus feat they can flip around doesn't.... But without specifically ruling it out, then yes, You could MT the CHameleon. Note that it would only be valid as long as they maintain their Arcane and Divine Foci. They'd get no new spells. They'd have to blow a feat on picking up a higher level spell slot, and then get only one, and bonus spells from stats to go with it. Amazingly, they'd still go up in spellcasting power by 2 levels...just like the Ur Priest. Ouch. Meaning this could be a very strong class by the time they hit Epic levels and can actually take higher level spell slots as Feats. They'd just have to live with sucky Hit dice in the meantime. 1) Remember you get to min/max spells...you can take from ANY divine list, and any Arcane list. Meaning you can use Bard spells if they are lower level then Mage, and Druid if they are lower then Cleric (i.e. Flamestrike, for starters). You can also use PALADIN and RANGER spells (Hunter's Mercy and Blessed Weapon, anyone?) 2) If you want healing spells you have to memorize them. Note that your high caster levels later in the class makes you a good buffer and dispeller. At level 10, you can make things Permanent that only a level 20 caster can take down. 3) The +4 bonus for switching to a fighter focus is better then weapon focus and spec. 4) the bonuses for the other class abilities are low because you are an Able Learner. Remember, you can take ANY cross class skill for normal cost...you are simply restricted in ranks. Epic Progression would probably allow you to take a 3rd focus. Builds? The key is getting into the class, and what you want to do with the spellcasting once you get there. If you are going to self buff, you are probably looking at combat enhancement spells. At later levels, you make a decent blaster for dmg spells and dispelling due to your levels. Concentrate on offensive spells that use touch attacks, as yours is better then a mage's, or that allow no saves. Also, always keep in mind the utility of never having to learn Item Creation feats, but having them available for anytime you want to make magic items...you could easily be the magic item maker for the entire party. Competency items cover any weaknesses in specific skills you might need. Max UMD. You don't have a spell list as a Chameleon. Thus, to use any magic items associated with your classes, you need to UMD stuff. the class as written up can be played as a flexible, would-be assassin's guild...but note that the 'master' of the class learned what he needed to from a monk. Ergo, you can easily rework this class into a noble order of a God of Skill (like, say, Tymora from the FR, or Xan Yae from Greyhawk). Being able to bring the proper mix of skills to the table to emulate any class is a potent tool. I would make Intelligence and Cha your best starting stats, with the nod to Int for skill points. Stat buffs and competency items are your friends. Browse the spell lists and assemble a list of favorite spells by lowest spell level. ==Aelryinth |

As for good suggestions for a chameleon I like the changeling race, nothing like a false face to go with your false class *embarassed*... must re-read... where is this listed at? and i know :P; even if it says human or doppleganger only, im sure any crossbread between the 2 is allowed... ~Edit thx aelryinth, but the Aptitudes dont count for PrC pre-reqs, yet the feat does... lots of good stuff there, but remember the only feat needed is able learner, and its a 1st level only spell, a high INT and DEX lets me have a decnet AC, ranged based spells, and INT a LOT of skill points and bonus spells per day... plus i may need to make spellcrafts checks untill i get to make spells in my own spell book... lots of help thx! |
| fractal04-14-05, 03:53 AM | Of course, if you already qualify for Mystic Theurge (or whatever) for some other reason, you could still select Chameleon as your Arcane or Divine class. It only says it doesn't help for meeting prerequisites, not that it can't benefit from PrCs and feats. |
| Solidcobra04-14-05, 04:31 AM | Also, dunno if anyone said it, chameleons must NOT share spells if they have two focuses, but rather, they have separate spell lists with separate bonus spells depending on separate stats. |
