| barna1007-31-07, 07:43 PM | Does anyone use the Chameleon PRC? |
| TheDarkPrince07-31-07, 08:01 PM | I don't, I don't even know what it really is, but I heard it was way strong. Considered one of the best PrC's if used correctly. Cheers! :D |
| JellyPooga07-31-07, 08:10 PM | I've never particularly liked it...it doesn't make a lot of sense to me, fluff-wise, and just seems to be a PrC built around a game mechanic rather than an RP-idea. If he can cast spells one day, why not the next? If he can sneak attack one day, why not the next? The whole focusing on one aspect a day or whatever just boggles my mind as to how exactly that works 'in game'. |
| LoneFlame07-31-07, 08:58 PM | Chameleon makes the Factotum look like a sissy. Some people may think it doesn't make sense, but neither do most other 'do everything' classes. 'Sides, it saves a lot of time and effort that would be wasted 'retraining'. It's a slow start with this class, but once you start getting up there, it starts paying you back for the effort. What I like about Chameleon is its flexibility. Sure, most of the time, I'll probably go with the build that best suits my style, but I like having the option to do something else later if I need/want to. It is up there with Abjurant Champion, Iaijutsu Master, and Eldritch Disciple on my list of best prestige classes. The only thing that would make Chameleon cooler would be the addition of a few more Aptitudes... more specifically, one for Psionics and one for Martial Maneuvers. However, I honestly don't think that Psionics or Maneuvers don't go with the class, since the Chameleon's spells are 'Prepared' rather than 'Spontaneous'. |
| TheDarkPrince07-31-07, 09:02 PM | Where is the Chameleon found? |
| LoneFlame07-31-07, 09:26 PM | Races of Destiny |
| nightwyrm07-31-07, 09:37 PM | Races of Destiny. Reminds me of the mime class in final fantasy games. |
| Vaelan08-01-07, 01:47 AM | The whole focusing on one aspect a day or whatever just boggles my mind as to how exactly that works 'in game'. It made sense to me pretty much immediately. There are two things in particular that made this idea gel in my mind. 1. Their class feature is called Aptitude Focus. Focus has a strong connotation of neglecting that which you are not focusing on. 2. Chameleons adopt personas, selectively tapping into different parts of their psyches. The way I see it, Chameleons are taught more than they can handle at once. To cope with the overwhelming number and variety of techniques, they have to block out much of their training at any given time. This is taught to them alongside the adoption of personas, since that particular skill is complimentary and also highly prized by the organization that trains Chameleons. Also, I would like to note that I am quite fond of classes that involve a third party drastically altering the way in which your mind works. It has so much potential for evil, evil things. |

And on another note .... Does it ever cleary state if a chamelon can be controled mentaly by a superior who taught them or a high member of the " school"(For DMing purposes and Backgroun/plot purposes) |
| Vaelan08-01-07, 03:54 PM | So what your saying is Chamelons are trained skitzos with the power to manipulate the skitzo at any time? While the terms you are using aren't exactly correct, by my understanding, I do believe you have the general idea. They can't manipulate it at any time, though. At best, it is still a difficult thing for them to do. And on another note .... Does it ever cleary state if a chamelon can be controled mentaly by a superior who taught them or a high member of the " school"(For DMing purposes and Backgroun/plot purposes) No, it doesn't. But DMs are encouraged to take liberties when adapting a prestige class to their campaign setting! ;) I would go with something more subtle than outright control, myself. |
| RealSorceror08-01-07, 04:34 PM | I use the Chameleon class all the time for my Changeling characters. I have also used it for a character who had multiple-personality disorder. Usually I combine Chameleon with Binder and/or Master of Masks. Then you can just play whatever you damn well please. |
| Alpha_Moose08-01-07, 04:42 PM | The Chameleon (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/iw/20041210b&page=1). It's a pretty interesting class, and is considered to be one of the most powerful PrCs. I've seen a redone version of it called the Red Mage (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=778804) that, besides being a bit better worded and such, includes more aptitudes. |
