| Sakaki2203-26-05, 10:26 PM | This idea (well, a similar one involving Samurai, Ronin, and lord changing) came to me out of the blue, and I'd like to hear some input on it. Let's say we have a Half-Elf Cleric of Pelor. He gains five levels of Cleric, his domain choices are Healing and Sun. Then, for some roleplay reason, his faith changes, and he becomes a follower of Corellon Larethian. Then he reaches ECL 6, and chooses to level in Cleric. He no longer can take his domain choices, with a new diety that doesn't share the same domains. Is he treated as a Cleric of Corellon Larethian 6 and gets to choose new domain spells, or is he a Cleric of Pelor 5/Cleric of Corellon Larethian 1? |
| Titan W03-26-05, 11:00 PM | You can't multiclass a as a cleric/cleric (Says so in the RAW) so I would assume that the original spells of Pelor were overwritten, as they wouldn't be granted by their diety any longer, new spells would be granted however, the replacement domains. |
| Borris03-26-05, 11:38 PM | When you change your patron deity, you switch from Cleric 5 of Pelor to Cleric 5 of Corellon. If the new god cannot grant you access to the domains you used to have, you must choose new ones from those offered by your new patron. If you had bought ranks in a class skills due to a domain ability (such as with Knowledge (nature) and Animal, or Survival and Travel), you keep the ranks, but the skill is no longer considered a class skill for you. |

This unfortuanatly brings up the question of why cant a cleric change around his domains with out changing gods. As an answer to this I would have it be that a clerics domains are from a role playing perspective Assigned by the god and thus in game there is no way to change them (unlike changing what god you worship). |

You can change your patron deity afterwards, but each time it costs you a level of cleric. So a 4th-level cleric of Pelor decides she wants to follow Corellon Larethian instead. Fine. RP-wise, it isn't just "Hey! I have a new deity now!" but game-wise it doesn't affect anything. Now she wants to switch back to Pelor. She can if she wants, but she'll be 3rd-level instead of 4th. As far as exact experience and progress towards leveling goes, I take the approximate progress gained and convert it (so if at 4th level she was halfway to 5th, she'll be 3rd level and halfway to 4th). Also, RP-wise, it isn't very simple either, but that's really just up to the imagination of the players and the DM. |

My actual question was: What if a Samurai lost his lord, went to the road as a Ronin, and found a new lord? Does he stay a Ronin, or can he level in Samurai again? And if he can go Samurai again, what if he already spent some of his Samurai levels for Ronin? Does he have to re-earn them? |

My actual question was: What if a Samurai lost his lord, went to the road as a Ronin, and found a new lord? Does he stay a Ronin, or can he level in Samurai again? And if he can go Samurai again, what if he already spent some of his Samurai levels for Ronin? Does he have to re-earn them? I don't know much about samurais and ronins, so I couldn't say for sure. But if you wanted to apply the house rule I presented above, I'd let him start leveling in samurai again without penalty assuming this is the first time it's happened. If not, I'd say instead of immediately deducting a level, just rule that next time he levels, he actually doesn't. Those are just my thoughts, though. |

(Complete Warrior 77) A character "who commits an act of grave dishonour loses all samurai features that depend on Charisma or Charisma-based checks... a disgraced character may not progress any further as a samurai. He regains his class features [and] the ability to advance in the class if he atones for his violations." (Complete Warrior 10) Generally speaking bushido demands that if your feudal lord is killed, you either commit ritual suicide (as you have failed him) or your allegiance immediately changes to one whom your feudal lord would have wished you to serve (a relative of the feudal lord, or the feudal lord's superior, perhaps.) If the PC has taken ronin levels rather than doing either of the two options above, he has already forsaken bushido, and it would make sense to restrict him to only advancing as a ronin. If he swears allegiance to a feudal lord, and that feudal lord is one whom he should rightfully be serving (as above) then it may make sense to allow him to atone for his misdeeds. That being said, the only way to atone for such a grave dishonour may be ritual suicide. If this was a campaign I was DMing, I would allow the PC to continue advancing as a ronin but not a samurai. This is not hamstringing the character in any way: ten levels of ronin are very powerful indeed, perhaps more powerful than the ten denied levels of samurai. Also keep in mind that samurai must be lawful, and ronin must be non-lawful. |
