| EnigmaShock09-25-06, 02:04 PM | I am in the proccess of creating a new character for a campaign, and I am going with a changeling beguiler. This campaign is not set in Eberron. The concept for this character is a trained spy who found out that the information she stole on her first mission was going to be used to oppress some peasants somewhere (work in progress) . . .She will also be taking the place of a rogue in this campaign . . . Stats are as follows: (1st lvl) Str: 12 (+1) Dex: 16 (+3) Con: 13 (+1) Int: 18 (+4) Wis: 10 (+0) Cha: 15 (+2) Feats: Spell Focus: Enchant (3rd - Combat Expertise, 6th - Improved Feint, 9th - Combat Casting . . . maybe move twards mobile spellcasting after that . . .) Skills ([Int + 6] x 4)(ranks): Bluff: 4 Concentration: 4 Diplomacy: 2 Disable Device: 4 Disguise: 4 Hide: 4 Move Silent: 4 Open Lock: 4 Search: 4 Sense Motive: 4 Sleight of Hand: 2 Has anyone played a Changeling Beguiler before? Any suggestions or experiences with Beguilers in general (as this is my first one)? Would a different Feat Tree be better? |

Only 2 of your skills rely on Dex (move, hide). You'll need all the HP's you can get. Besides that, I would take different feats. You don;t really need the 'combat expertise/improved feint'. You'll be hidden (or invisible) most of te times, so you can use your cloaked casting ability without these 2 feats. Almost all the Beguilers spells are save or die-spells, so you better have a high DC. There are some nice feats out there that do that for you. And yep, go check out the Beguiler Handbook...... |

As a party diplomat if negotiations go sour you won't be hidden, and have little chance of getting hid (unless you have high bluff, recommened). Plus, its ridiculously easy to give character's see invisible. Its only a 2nd lvl spell, just in time for invisibility which means any character in the world can decide "Do I turn myself invisible, or reveal all the invisible characters to myself" Lastly, invisibility won't save you everytime, as it will disappear after you cast a spell to get your bonus. Cast a couple good defense spells you'll get a decent AC (18+) and will be just shy of what an equal level fighter has. Get in melee, and feint like crazy and you'll get them flat-footed every time. My best strategy for you would be, first round of combat cast defensively invisibility, then next couple rounds keeping moving around and buffing your AC. Then cast an attack spell while beside an enemy, against someone other than him. You catch other enemy flatfooted, and next turn feint and catch the guy you're next to flat footed. Idealy the guy you'll be next to will be their spellcaster, so AC is even less of an issue, and if anyone tries to attack you all your friends get AoO against them for leaving the main line of battle. |
