Does he progress in both schools within the class or does he gain the ability to take the class more than once?

However, I'd simply rule that you would have to choose which specialization you want to master when entering the class, and that you could not pick both; nor could you take the class again. This ruling avoids all normal rulebreaks that could occur from other routes.

Tytalus 06-22-07, 08:50 PM	nor could you take the class again. I don't think there's much harm in allowing such a PC to take Master Specialist twice, once for each specialization. It's not even optimized.

CantripN 06-23-07, 11:45 AM	I'd just say you pick which Esoterica and G. Spell Focus you get when you get them, so you could Mix'n'Match. Were I feeling generous, I'd allow you to get both, since the ones for Transmutation suck except the first one and the Illusion ones aren't all that good, either.

You do take levels in Snake Lord, Cat Lord, etc. Master Specialist isn't broken up into "Conjuration Specialist" and "Evocation Specialist", so there is no reason (in my mind) to allow it to deviate the general rules that you can not take a PrC class twice.

Well, from the Complete Adventurer's text (p. 22, second column, the paragraph above Adaptation) : A character can choose this prestige class more than once but must select a different group of associated animals and start at 1st level each time. This PrC does not break down in several others, it is simply taken several times. This is one PrC, not several grouped under a common name.;)
risner 06-24-07, 09:48 AM	It would appear I was mistaken. The Animal Lord does follow convention, which means that it did contain the standard text inserted into any feat or in this case PrC that allows it to be taken more than once (since the standard rule is you can't the same thing twice.) In other words, without "you can take this more than once" in Master Specialist, you will be unable to do so without DM approval/house rule.
