Is there anything about that in any of the books? Me and someone else are having an arguement over a cleric or favored soul being able to change gods should they have a good reason to.

Now i know if you violate your god's rules you become a ex cleric and must attone, but what if at some point the evil cleric reforms and becomes good, can he go commit himself to some other god and recieve the power from them?

Now favored soul is even more complicated. She says they have a connection with a god so should the favored soul stop following their religion they lose all their powers forever o.o even if they want to serve someone else. I think thats a bit too rigid and say that its all about choice. They can commit themselves to another diety.

Your opinions? Any books that touch on this?

Sure they can. Why wouldn't Pelor take in a pour guy who has attoned for his sin and wishes to spread the light that is Pelor? Same goes for every other deity. They WANT followers, it makes them more powerful.

Now, Favoured Souls are tricky: they don't need to follow their god to retain their powers. Iirc, it's the soul that's favoured, not you. So you could be a favoured soul of Pelor and worship Nerull if you wanted to.

I should think it's entirely possible that even if a favored soul lost all their toys from turning away from their god, they could find a new god to let them play with a new set of toys, assuming they had some way of communicating with the higher (or lower) planes to submit a job application... I mean, on the assumption that your bonus feats and stuff were gifts from a god, wouldn't whatever new god decided to pick up your contract give you a new set of tools to work with, like switching your weapon focus from the old god's weapon to his own?
Of course, it'd kinda suck if you'd spent the last seven levels power-attacking with a +3 greatsword and then found out that your new god switched out your feats for the ones for his preferred weapon, the light pick... :D

It's in the PHBII in the Retraining section. Basically, you deny God A, lose your class features, go to temple of God B, they give you some kind of quest or task or whatnot, then when you complete it they give you an Atonement (I think) and you select your new domains from the new religion.

(Assuming standard D&D style extant-meddling-gods cosmology.)
