| klode_me12-03-05, 01:37 PM | in the dragon issue #335 there is a variant monk called chaos monk, it has an ability called flailing strike. i have a question for that ability: is it extra attacks of max. bab or least bab or neither? |
| Rabid Dire Wolverine12-03-05, 02:43 PM | Max, but there's a small penalty to attack. |
| klode_me12-03-05, 05:16 PM | Max, but there's a small penalty to attack. at 17th level, it is a great ability. if you are lucky and roll a 6, the you have +12/+12/+12/+12/+12/+12/+12/+7/+2 + str modi. (dex if weapon finesse). and if you have empty hand and improved nat. attack 6d8 but if only imp. nat. att. 4d8(?). the last is best, more free feats. |

| Von Crown12-03-05, 07:52 PM | No. It works on Natural Weapons. Monks use Unarmed Strikes. As odd as this may seem, these are not the same. I've even seen official rulings that monks with natural weapons can't use them more than the listed times with flurry of blows. Nattural attacks are kinda added on to your other attacks if you have them. |

You are also going to find legitimate arguments for both sides. Personally, I think that you may be well served by allowing it as a test to see if it is unbalanced or not for your game. A few points to keep in mind: 1) Monks cannot normally enchant their unarmed attacks to make them more potent 2) The unarmed strike is not necessarily a natural attack by the rules 3) The average damage is only increased by 1 point 4) The feat is normally reserved only for monsters (it is in the MM and it clearly states that, but it also states that the feats can be used by PCs if the DM allows). I allow it. I have found that monks are not overpowered with this feat. However, some DMs find that the monk can be, so I suggest testing it in the games you run or play in. Good luck. |
