chaotic cleric??? [Archive] - Wizards Community

07-19-06, 10:58 PM this has never made sense to me, a cleric by their very profession are a person who follows the rules and edicts of their faith, the very opposite of the chaotic "do it my way" train of thaught.

07-19-06, 11:36 PM It's a frequent missconception in the non-religious ones, that being religious - and clerical means a straight, very orderly life.

To have rules, do not means Lawfull. Look at elves, by example. Chaotic only means a tendence toward personal freedom and flexibility there, I say.

And so, chaotic priesthoods can well exist - all gods do not follow severe traditions like Brahmanist Hinduism or Catholicism. Think of an order dedicated to Dionisos or Aphrodite, by example... Non-stressfull life, flexible traditions.

07-20-06, 12:05 AM true, but look at the vast majority of chaotic evil dieties, in one part or other of their ethose, they say "do exactly as I say, because I say so", just look at talos, in his description he even says that all followers must participate in a very specific ritual at a set interval (i think it was every 6 months) and he has other rules, like most other dieties, even chaotic ones (talos is CE). and almost none of them allow for "personal freedom", so how on earth does that clergy work???

(im not trying to be mean or argumentative, im genuinely asking)

Cyric by example, CE god of Forgotten Realms (and a messed up son of Meech). He want his clerics create striffe and brew **** all over. But he don't have an elaborated set of rules for it's priests., it's not in the nature of the rathernut Dark Sun.

Chaotic Evil represent in this case a joyfull, gleefull anarchy where you break all rules of society (generaly).

I don't know if you can see what I am saying... They allow freedom, in a way.

07-20-06, 12:36 AM CE Preisthoods usually mean you have to sacrifice or give something to the higher up or else. BUT if you can make someone else pay that is cool, if you can get away with something and shift the blame that is cool. Long as your god gets his piece of the action((Meaning you are carrying out what he believes in)) and not screwing up, said God dont care long as it benefits it in the end. That is just a rough detailing of an evil priesthood. For something more detailed read up on how the Clerics of Loth work.
