| polarcleric04-06-07, 07:20 PM | I was wondering if there were such a class that was similiar to the Knight class (and its features) in PHII, but wasn't so tied down lawful acts (ie: 'playing fair'). Sort of a 'Vic Mackey from The Shield' type character that isn't above doing whatever it was needed to do a job---regardless of good/evil, lawful/chaotic consequences (without penalty). Does something like this exist? What & Where? Thanx. PS: I'm sort of hoping something like this could be in the Complete Champion coming out, but I highly doubt it. I think playing an antihero puts so much more life into a character than just a simple hero or villain. |
| Board_Rider04-06-07, 07:39 PM | I think that a CG Soulborn (MoI), CG Paladin Variant or really any class/race combo with the Goad feat could put you on your way. |
| bobothechimp04-06-07, 07:43 PM | You could use a fighter, or the evil paladin variants from Unearthed Arcana. |
| Qooroo04-06-07, 07:49 PM | Can you be more specific about what about the Knight you want? That would make it easier to point out useful alternates. |
| Cartigan04-06-07, 08:22 PM | Can you be more specific about what about the Knight you want? That would make it easier to point out useful alternates. Well the Knight is the quintessential "tank" class, so I would assume that's the kind of abilities he wants. |

| Cartigan04-06-07, 08:32 PM | I dunno about the Crusader, but nigh ever ability of the Knight is designed to tank for the party by getting monster focus and taking damage. |
| polarcleric04-06-07, 11:16 PM | The responses have been very good--thanx. For those that wanted a better explanation of the character I'm thinking of--think ruthless zealot (but not a paladin). I want a player that will do whatever necessary--alignment be darned, to achieve his objectives/desires. His similiarities to the knight would be the knight's challenge type manuevers w/the better AC & HP, yet not bound by a moral code of conduct--doesn't let himself get handcuffed by an ethos. I hope that helps. Thanx again. |
| The_Shaman04-07-07, 02:55 PM | LE/N knight, perhaps? Being a zealot of practically anything is more likely a sign of lawful alignment, and the "at any cost" might be a bit too ruthless for good alignments. Alignment can be interpreted in different ways, after all. A Sacred Templar, perhaps? The challenge maneuver can be imitated with a few feats (goad, combat intuition) and the smite power. Plus, you get to be quite tough. Being lawful doesn't have to mean playing fair - at least by the standard definition. Your average guild thief (think the old guard from "The Godfather") might be lawful, but it doesn't mean they would be particularly chivalrous. |
