So, I'm trying to come up with a way to make a character concept I have. A more martial bard. Probably human or half elf. From the RP perspective, I want him to be a cocky-rock-star type. Renowened muscian/hero with a large fan base. Of course, huge charisma.

However, I also want him to be able to hold his own in battle. I'm not interested in bard spells past 2nd level, really (alter self and the like when he needs to be incognito). I would have no problem going bard/warblade, except that I really don't want to give up bardic music progression and getting big perform (possibly diplomacy) checks.

Also, I was thinking that White Raven would be a natural choice (only charisma based skill, diplomacy) but the flavor is totally off for the hot-shot-rock-star.

Are there any PrCs that would work for this, or would I have to try and create a martial PrC which can give up most of the bard progression but keep bardic music?

(Side note, I thought those two classes would be good because I could take the feat which lets me wear one level higher armor, medium, and cast in it. However, I guess I've ruled out lots of battle-casting anyway...)

Any ideas are greatly appreciated-- thanks!

bard/warblade could rock just because of the Song of the White Raven feat.

Take a couple levels of bard and then just keep going with warblade. Take Words of Creation (BoED), Song of the Heart (ECS), and cast Inspriational Boost (SC) and you could wind up with an Inspire Courage that is putting out +6 to hit and damage before level 8. All you need is a way to resist that nonlethal damage (necropolitan or warforged) and your good to go. And dont forget to take a few flaws to fit everything you need in there at a low level.

Thanks for the help! I'll have to look up that Song of the White Raven; I don't remember it off the top of my head. Or Words of Creation for that matter.

The thing which still worries me is that it looks like i'm not gaining more uses of bardic music per day, but more importantly i'm losing the additonal types of bardic music. I really want to be able to do the fascinate/suggest through music (rather than spells) and which a decent DC. How can I remedy these problems?

There is a feat in Dragon 326 called Chaos Music that increases the Bard's effective Bard level for Bardic Music by +4, up to their HD. It's basically a Practiced Spellcaster for Bards.

Well ok, now this is irritating. Those are both good and dandy, however Song of the White Raven doesn't give me everything I want (although it does grant swift action inspire courage). Chaos music is nice, but it would override only half of Song of the White Raven.

Neither alone give me enough, but when taking both I only get 1/2 the benefit of each.
